Anyone wanna help (Database)

anyone with a basic VB or C++ knowledge should be able to setup a program for you. Just basic entry fields for a sub/speaker/amp. If any of you go to a school that has a computer science major, find a kid in the program, he should do it for almost nothing...SHOULD being the key word.

I understand the desire to keep out the moronic reviews of bargain-basement gear (Legacy, Boss, etc) such as we have all seen on SoundDomain and the like where someone claims their four 12" Boss subs on some Logic Soundlabs amplifier was breaking windows and getting the cops in the next county called out...

But why exactly are you eliminating them from the database entirely? I understand that none of the forum regulars and few, if any, of the unaccounted-for lurkers would buy and/or use any of that garbage. But! There's obviously a market for it or it wouldn't exist. Shoot we've got a Petro truckstop on the west side of town that can get ya any kind of Boss gear ya want! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Additionally if we were to create a source of actual specifications for people to peruse they might begin to understand what they can and cannot reasonably expect that "2000 Watt" amplifier to do for them.

eliminating those entry level brands will be less work for the people in charge of the database, as well as take less server space. I think we should put the rated specs in the database from "respectable companies" which mostly takes away the BS ratings altogether.

First, i think it is a grand idea, but I think if it's going to be a database then it needs to be just that, and needs to be all inclusive.

There should not be any reviews I don't think, because as stated people are always bias, and you cannot expect anyone to monitor the reviews to delete worthless ones...plus, who gets the authority to say something is worthless?

No brand should be excluded either. All brands that we can find information on should be in the database, so that people can compare everything they want to. A limited selection would be a mediocre site that could be thrown together tomorrow afternoon by a few of us.

Now, with that said, if we could create a database that has the parameters including but not limited to year, model, t/s, reccomended box sizes, etc. I think it would be absolutely fantastic. It would take a very long time to do, but would provide much needed information.

Other issue with this is that it would need to be updated regularly as new equipment becomes available (i.e. this time of year).

yea... im tending to lean towards prowler/swimfreaks pov. and we may just cut the review/ratings section altogether.

however, when someone compares a 35w x 2 Legacy vs a 35w x 2 Sinfoni, that would be unfair.

yea that is exactly what i am aiming towards

regular updating will probably be done biweekly if not daily for the people who have time.

I would be willing to donate the webspace to this project, everything on the technical side you would want, including databases, etc

Would be nice to have another programmer to work with though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ygpm my friend. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

lets get this rolling!!!

and thanks for all yall help and support. ima update the list right now

I will donate the webspace needed if someone wants to buy the domain... as for the database, i would do it but i'm stretched WAYYYYYYYY to thin right now with work and a couple other projects.

Best bet would be something with an sql backend...

Get ahold of me, I would be willing to whip up the design maybe.

I can offer hosting for it. PHP with a dedicated MYSQL database for the project, even open FTP for anyone with coding skills. It will take a while to get it set up, but I can offer it. My host is very good.

I can also offer some of my time as a coder, I've built everything from blogs to forums to my own open version of wiki in PHP/mysql/sqlite, but I don't think I could take on the entire project myself.

I also offer this: Make it open. You won't get anywhere if you have 5 or 10 select people posting different reviews in it every other week. The real magic comes from having it open, like the reviews section of this forum. Person A adds the product to the database, and anyone can add their own views of the product. Then, perhaps those 5 to 10 people make their way through and clean up some of the "OMG TEH ROXORS / SUXORS!" reviews and we all call it good.

wow so many people wanna help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif im happy!!!!

i guess 1 or 2 people can design the looks and how the things work (im not too good, but i can give input on the categories and stuff). a group 5-10 of us will recieve the emails actually input info into the database, while those 5-10 , as well as a select few will moderate the reviews.

ANYONE is open to give information and post reviews, but the reviews will be moderated heavily like raven said

edit: ill get back to yall when Megahurtz gets back to me because he offered first.

once i get a response, ill let everyone who wants to code/design know whats goin on. if i dont get a response within the nexts few days, ill ask the next person htat offered
