Anyone let Best Buy/Circuit City install their system?

There's people at BB/CC that visit these boards that love audio and would do a great job, then there's people that go their for pay only and really don't care about audio. Hopefully you can find someone in your area that visits boards like these and likes audio for more than just a paycheck.

And just for the record, what requirements must you meet to become an installer at BB/CC?

Actually, Crutchfield has videos for installing a Head Unit and Speakers, and they dont look hard at all to install, I just have to get all the tools (Crimping set?).The amp and sub install is gonna be a different story since they dont have videos for those.
You dont need a ''crimping set'', most wire strippers are crimpers as well or you can use wire cutters to crimp. Do yourself a favor and buy the "automatic" wire strippers, put the wire in and squeeze. Less than $10 and they will make stripping much more fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Can you provide a link for the automatic wire strippers? I am actually seriously considering installing it myself. The amps look like the only hard part to install.

These are the 2 most common types. I like the latter.

You can buy them pretty much anywhere, radioshack, walmart, home depot, etc.

Front loading works a little better on thicker wiring...will strip 8 gauge with a little force.

The middle-loading strippers work well when you need to tap into an existing wire...I have both sets...to be honest...I'll use whichever pair I grab first //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

BTW- I'm an installer at CC and I like to think of myself as a fairly decent installer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

do not crimp anything - autostrippers sure...just be sure to silver solder all connections and insulate with electrical tape or shrink wrap...

I solder/tape any hardwire I do...unless the person is a real jackass...then I'll just tape...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What are you installing? I know nothing about car equipement and hooked up mine no problem, Im not paying $100+ to do 10 minutes of work!
You sir, dont know the first thing about installing and are the least qualified of anyone here to be making posts. Ill bet you all 4 of my zapco c2k-9.0s that you cant swap the deck in 10 minutes on a 100% factory 04 honda accord.

Do not touch your car's system until you know what you are doing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

****, good idea. I've never thought about using them to strip an existing wire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

I'll take pics in a min of the side loading ones, camera charging.

For 8ga and up I just use a razor blade, works simple enough.

And installing an amp is just as easy if not easier then installing a deck. The hardest part is deciding where a good place to run the wires are, and that's not hard, just takes a little bit of time. You run a wire and RCAs from the deck, a power wire from your battery, and then ground it to something near. Really not hard at all, like I said, the "hardest" part is finding a place to run the wires where they are concealed.

Do yourself a favor...if you do a lot of cutting/stripping of 8ga+ wires, go to Home Depot and pick up a set of those cable cutters...they run ~$15 and can cut/strip 0ga. with ease...I love mine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Some cars are a pain in the *** to get a power wire through the firewall...newer VW's come to mind...

Its been about a month since I touched one - didnt they have the newer 7899 kit? I hate honda and their below dash bolts torqued to 100billion ftlbs....grrrrr

Friend's 01 monte carlo was a nice time trying to find a good place to run a wire, where my 93 Jeep already had a spot for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
