Anyone let Best Buy/Circuit City install their system?

What are you installing? I know nothing about car equipement and hooked up mine no problem, Im not paying $100+ to do 10 minutes of work!

Is this Best Buy or Circuit City?I am leaning towards going to CC now.

It was Best Buy. I would rather do it myself, no better feeling then when you do it yourself and know you did a good job.

Best Buy installed my stuff.

But I spoke with the shop and found out who was the head/supervising installer and went on a day he would be working..

and I stayed the entire time.

I also checked over ever inch of the car when they where done..

I definately wouldnt trust every Best Buy installer...

Still chillin at Best Buy install bay. NOTHING goin on here. The snow is bringing on a lot of no shows today.

But Best Buy and Circuit City Install bays are pretty much the same. There is usually 1 or 2 guys with a lot of experience, then 1 or 2 with a few years under their belt, then 1 or 2 who are just getting into it, ya know have their basic certifications.

Both of these places are gonna have rookies workin on cars here and there, thats just the way it goes. These places are who raise the Master installers.

How many private shops do you know that have the time to bring in a complete rookie and risk them breaking panels or what ever else they may do. Unless a private shop has the time to stand behind a rookie installer and watch everything they do and check it over twice....you wont find them there.

That is a main reason why I am at best buy now. My local installer hired me, but didnt have time to train me so he let me go and told me to check out best buy....WHERE I WILL get lots of experience...where I WILL have the oppertunity for a senior to sit behind me and check everything I do and direct me through what im doing until im done, and until the product is working correctly

EVERYONE NEEDS TO START SOMEWHERE!!

honestly id feel more comfortable taking my car to a best buy where they are held liable for any damage done to the car vs. a private shop where there is no pre-check list and a post-check list

it also depends on what you are installing. if it's just speakers or even a head unit, they should be able to do that. but so can you, they don't hire install professionals. i am sure that the guys there started with about the same knowledge as you. just find a friend or a good online guide and you can do it.

Here is what I am getting installed:

-JVC Head Unit (comes with the dash kit I need to put in)

-Pair of front speakers

-2-channel amp connected to the front speakers (Profile)

-1 12" Alpine Type R Sub

-Directed Audio 1500D connected to the Sub

I live in Great Falls, VA so I would be heading to the Tysons Circuit City or the Reston Best Buy.

The main reason I am concerned with doing it myself is what if I mess it up somehow? I wont know how to correct it and will be out of luck, whereas I can get someone to do it for me and if it is messed up, I can take it back for a reinstillation (sp?).

I am 30 minutes from the Tweeter in Falls Church btw.
