Ok heres the deal, there is a guy who lives behind my parents that buys cars fixes them and flips them. He has a 1991 civic hatchback that he supposedly has $4500 invested in it.

He's been trying to sell it for a while now, he started out wanting $4500, hes gone all the way down to $2500. On top of that hes wiling to take a computer as a partial trade. So that will knock the price down 500-700 bucks or so.

He swapped a newer si engine into but its a D series( I was hoping it was a B series motor), and from what I can tell they aren't very performance friendly. The body is straight just faded paint, the interior is good other then the driver seat being torn.

So basically the question is: Is it worth the $2000 or so it will cost me?

Heres the specs I found on the engine:

D16Z6

o 1992-1995 Honda Civic EX, EX-V and SI

o 1992-1995 Honda Civic ESi (European Market)

I have worked on Honda/Acuras for about 9 yrs. At th eshop I worked at I have done swaps on them for about 5. Engine wise the d16z is your basic UPGRADE, given because a vtec is not available originally in this year civic (88-91). just make sure the swap was done correctly, (extra wire ran for vtec, vtec ecu, ect..)

Is it a decent engine tho? Everybody talks about the B series, but not the d-series really. You think its worth the $2000 or so it will cost me?

I forgot to say also it has an aftermarket intake on it already, after market exhaust too. Not to sure what brand tho. It also has upgraded rims. they came with 13's stock this one has 15s with good tires.

intake and exhaust gain you very little:fyi:

edit: it is a ricer's myth

I deal alot with Honda's, and currently own one.

Honestly i don't see where the 4500 is in the car, besides a 1g swap maybe.

Pictures, condition, miles, etc. are all factors. I dont know where u are located , but up here rust is a big issue.

D series motors aren't much stock, but always a good block for a turbo build if thats what your interested in.

I say yes, its a strong lil single cam, yes no B series but that in itself is a couple grand upgrade.

Based on my experience I would say no...I purchased an '88 Acura Integra LS w/ everything working and in real good shape for only $1200. It has 4 wheel discs, a D16A1 engine, 5 spd., etc. And fairly low miles. Just my 2 cents;)
believe it or not, because of weight and gearing of the two cars I would put any amount of money any day of the week that if your talking performance, that lil hatchback would smoke a 88 teg,,90-93 teg thats different then your stepping up to the b series LS. Just MY 2 cents;)

The cars in good condition al the way around, just faded paint. Not really interested in doing a turbo setup. Hoping to go N/A if anything. Mileage I honestly can't remember off hand.
