its all imaginary
So I installed my system last week (4 coaxes+4ch amp) and i ran into a problem. I had everything installed and it was sounding great, but the next day I was half way to work and the speaker in my driver's door just stopped playing.

I never heard any distortion or weird noise, so I am reasonably certain the speaker didn't blow.

I checked the amp and all the connections and I know there is no problem in the amp.

Could it be something like a severed speaker wire?

Just want an idea of what to look for so I know what i'm doing when I go to work on everything on saturday.

thanks in advance,

Matthew

That sounds like a highly likely possibility (the severed wire thought)

If you know the connections (power, ground, remote, RCA cables, speaker outputs) are all solid then the next logical step (to me) is to test the questionable output on the amp with a speaker you know works. If the known speaker then plays on the questionable amp channel then you know the problem doesn't lie in the amp at all.

The next thing is to trace the wire all the way from the amp to where it attaches to the input leads on the speaker to see are there any bad patches, tears in the insulation where the conductor(s) might be touching metal, severe pinches where they go under a seat or through a door hinge or whatever and then finally to the speaker itself to see if maybe it simply became disconnected???

Actually - now that I think about it the above ^^^^^ is probably backwards.

Those are the right steps, IMO, but in reverse order. Check the connections at the speaker first and then follow that train the opposite direction until you get to the amp. Barring all else you'll want to verify that the output on the amp is working properly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

okay, i already checked that channel on the amp by hooking up my other door speaker to that channel and everything is fine with the amp.

so most likely I have a cut/damaged/disconnected speaker wire then? I figured I would have heard it grounding out and sending distortion to the speaker
