Looks like its made out of Sonotube like Hsu home subwoofers used to be.

2 8" subs IB in the rear deck. or 6.5" subs.

I agree its ugly, I wouldn't do it but that was probably the only way the guy could get a decent size sub in there.

Personally I would have gone with a smaller sub(s) and put them somewhere else too.
