Any advice?

If you really want something pretty and light up i know some of the pheonix gold annd massive audio woofers light up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ooohhh... I just found online that audiobahn makes a grille that can go over a 15" sub that lights up. It has two colors (you change it with a switch) and one of the colors is red! sweet. the other is blue, but like I care. I like blue too, but that wouldn't match my shiny red windshield whipers. LOL:laugh: Now I am wondering what kind of 15" subs I could afford... or maybe just 1? I dont even know if two 15" subs would even fit into my trunk....

I wonder if that grille thingy would be confusing to hook up.

What are some good 15" choices? I don't see this grille in other sizes...

I was thinking 10s or 12s, due to price, but now i feel compelled to look into 15s.

Too many choices to make. Too much selection of subwoofers and amps.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Well, they say being confused about something is the first step to figuring it out. Or somebody said that once to me, anyhow.

You can find a 15 Kicker L7 used here in the classifieds for cheap.

that sub would be LOUD with very little power.

I have two of them in a big ported box in a blazer and I get that earhtquake like bass. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

you could jus go with a single sub setup //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you dont need to have alot to make alot of noise //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ok, I made the ground wire shorter. Also we moved the wires that were connected to the back speakers and connected them to the back of the H/U. Don't ask me what they are or why they were hooked up like that I have no Idea. When we did that stuff I noticed that one wire was melted adn blackened. Supposedly it was the 'remote wire'. I don;t know what that wire is. What could have happened to make it melt? We cut it to get rid of the melted part. We blew out another fuse trying to test the system and adjust it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif But anyow, we got that stuff done. According to my boyfriend we can only do one of the big 3. I asked him why, but I didn;t really get what he said. Apparently there isn't room for bigger gauge wires or some crap like that. Now I can't remember what one it was he said we could replace, but we got a wire at autozone, but the wire says it's for something else. Does that matter? He says a wire is a wire. Its a 2 gauge Duralast gold "switch to starter bettery cable". I asked him why we couldn;t do the other ones and why the cable said it was for something else, and he got mad at me, so I said I was going to ask my dad to help and he got mad at me for that too:waycrazy: . Is he ticked off cuz he doesn;t know what he's doing or because I am asking dumb questions? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Also my boyfriend says that there is a power cable for the steroe or something that we need to switch out for a bigger gauge and then I will stop blowing that stereo power fuse. Best Buy told me I needed to spend almost a thousand dollars to fix that problem by replacing the entire wiring harness. My boyfirend says that they were just trying to sell me stuff. Who is right?

remote wire is what tells the amp to turn on and off when the car is on or off. probably was touching the power or ground wire that melted it. you can do all of the big 3. http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152355 print that out and show him. wire is wire as long as it is truly 2 gauge. the least i would so the big 3 in would be 4 gauge. I dont know why he wouldnt want to just pick up some plain wire and battery terminals though. which you can get fairly cheap here https://weldingsupply.securesites.com/cgi-bin/einstein.pl?Next::1:UNDEF:OR:terms::pA

he seems to have very little knowledge in what he is doing at all and is taking it out on you. im sure you dont need to spend 1000 bucks on it, and its impossible for us to figure out your problem without some pics of whats going on with the stereo. or a better description with what its doing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I dont have a digital camera, but my grandpa does. When he gets back from the casino (he and my grandma went to some casino for the day) tonite I will ask him to take some pics. What exactly should I get pictures of? Anything in specific you might need to see to get a better idea?

well, I don;t really know what they were but they had plugs that fit into the back of the H/U. The way I had it set up before I had some kind of thing that they plugged into that was plastic and silver colored and that had wires coming out the other side that we hooked up to the back speakers. Also, yesterday my boyfriend changes the way that the four wires from the subs were hooked up to the amp. He said he hooked them up mono. But something we did yesterday was bad to have done, apparently, because just today I have blown out that stupid stereo power fuse several times. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif On an unrelated note, but equally dissapointing, since it kept blowing out I had to drive for a while with no music I noticed my car is making a funny squeeky noise //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif I hope its not something my dad can;t fix.

There is a plus to whatever we did to the system yesterday though... the subs are no longer making a loud BBBBRRRRMMMM! noise when I turn the car on. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

those are probably the RCA's into the back of the head unit. To me it sounds like some wires are touching and your shorting something out. but without pictures im jus pissing in the wind lol. take pics of everything you think looks like a problem lol. take pics of your ground wire area. all the amps wires. back of the head unit at different angles. anything and everything you can think of.

Okay... here are some pics my grandpa took for me.

Heres my amplifier...

Here's my battery. The blue cable is the cable going to the system. And that would be my grandpas thumb on the left side LOL

Heres the front of the H/U. We took off the plastic molding around it and discovered we didn't have the tool to take out the screw thingys so I couldn't get pics of teh back of it yet.

Heres my subs in the stupid particle board box we made. My boyfriend is now claiming it's MDF and he supposedly mispoke when he told me particleboard, but see those black words on the top? Yeah.... They say "PARTICLE BOARD"

And here is the ground wire

Can you tell anything from those pics? I will try and get some pics of the back of the H/U tomorrow. I might need to have my dad take it out for me, im sure he has the tools required. My boyfriend had it out the other day, so he must have the tools. Tell me if there is anything you need to see a better pic of or anything.

well it looks like your ground is good. but on the amp with the power Remote wire and ground it looks like some of the copper from both power and ground could be touching the remote wire. when you say you blow fuses where are you blowing fuses? are you blowing fuses on that power wire going to your amp or fuses in the headunit? if its in the head unit. there may be loose wires in the back of the head unit touching and make it short itself out. and yes that is defintly particle board lol and what also looks to be 3-4 cubes maybe of a huge sealed box lol. which only needs 2 cubes altogether max.

The fuse that blows is under my dash in the fuse box. It is a red 10amp fuse and the spot where it goes says "Radio 2" or something I think. The head unit really ought to be installed and wired correctly because Best Buy did it. We installed the subs and amp ourselves though. Yesterday at one point also the subs stopped working (maybe the amp shut off... I dunno) but the radio kept going. When I restared my car they were back.

when does that fuse blow? like are you doing anything different or is it jus prolonged playing? the reason your subs stopped working is because the amp went into protection mode. maybe from to low of an ohm load or maybe wires got crossed or maybe the gain is way to high up and bass boost resulting in the amp overheating.

It just blows after its been playing for a while. Especially if the song has a lot of Bass. The reasons you isted why the subs might have stopped I don;t understand exactly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif But I can run them by my boyfriend and he might get it. (hes not here today... its his 18th birthday and he is spending it with his family I guess) What would I do to try and correct whatever it is? How in the world do I make sure that the remote wire isn;t touching any other wires it shouldn;t touch. It slides around a little sometimes and stuff cuz the amp is just bolted to a board and set in the trunk. Is there some better way to have that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/ponder.gif.ec2527b23f1d287b60dcbba54f95edba.gif
