Another fedex nightmare

when i went to the ups store, guy told me not to bother putting fragile stickers on a box worth 500$ because they don't even pay attention to them and toss them either way. He said the best thing to do is to let him package it that way if anything happens you are totaly insured.
He was a pretty cool guy.
OH YES the only packages WE see as special boxes are HAZMATS A.K.A hazard labels and OPENED BOXES.

everything else is the same ol same ol............

we also have the 2nd LARGEST FEDEX WAREHOUSE in the U.S. the first largest is in N.J.

so should we just slap on hazmat labels to are shipments from now on?? haha*Warning BioHazard*

yea it would be strange but it would be a good idea........ but seriously i think if it REALLY dosen't contain any harmful materials in it they won't allow you to.

theres no way the sub would be damaged in that box.. i got two packages from fedex with the sub sitting free between wood and no problems.. i bet that sub was broken before it was shipped

i hope no one is expecting packages around here. they may end up looking just as bad as yours.

holy shit man, I bet fedex is gonna be covered in claims. I only had a few things shipped through fedex. Most of them came in good condition. Had a muffler that I got that was bent all to hell.

Never had any problems with UPS. My Xbox came the other day and it was in a huge box. The box itself was in really bad shape and I feared that my xbox was gonna be trashed, but it was packed full of padding and the xbox was wrapped in the huge air tube packing things.

The box was a reused box so possibly was damaged before it was shipped. Just about every package I have gotten with UPS has been in perfect shape. I had problems with USPS damaging packages and losing them but UPS is alright by my book

I think packages are damaged by careless people in the company. Its not a company issue, bcuz no matter who I've shipped thru, something will break.

Thats a rebox for sure, meaning it busted open an they packed it into a new box. That sucks bad tho. I know drivers are alot more careless with the packages than we handlers are.

They speed and go thru red lights, an cut corners, all while boxes are slammin the van. It just depends on WHO your box is goin to sadly.

I can understand your frustration. That being said, if you know that fedex and UPS are awful and destructive, why not package better? I can't wait to sell something on here just so that someone can show off the packaging I will do. Liquid expanding foam FTW. But, even if you can't get to that, but air bags in the box, use double walled cardboard and make sure nothing can move around. You give anything room to move and it will make more room for itself.

Here's an idea. Put the sub in a trash-bag and pull it tight and remove as much air as you can. Get a box that is about 4'' larger than the sub on all sides. Place a piece of 2'' foam on the bottom of the box and set the sub (in the bag) on there. Then fill the rest of the box in with expanding foam to the top of the sub. Put another 2'' sheet of foam on top and close up the box.

0 movement, lots of protection.

you guys cant seriously blame fedex. i work for fedex and we have strict rules for shipping packages. specailly if its heavy, you have to realize that in order for packages to move across the country in less 3-4 days (ground) they need to be able to withstand being dropped from at least 5feet and thrown a few feet as well. dont ever blame the shipping company, blame the packager who packaged your item. we ship thousands of pieces of freight each day at my station from companies like sony, atmel, jds uniphase, sun...etc. i throw/stack at least 20-30 $30,000 Sony HD studio quality movie cameras everyday and they are packaged to handle the abuse, or else they would not be shipped with us anymore. looking at the packaging posted above it looks like the packager did a shotty job. packaging peanuts dont prevent movement...

but like i said, you have to make sure your packages do not move around/shift inside their boxes, otherwise it is prone to be damaged during the shipping process. let me give you some insight...at my station we ship about 13-15,000 overnight, 2nd day packages in a span of 2 hours. alot of these packages weigh between 50-200lb sometimes and if you expect it to get from coast to coast overnight they must be packaged well to handle the abuse from shipping. the station i work at is just a tiny station compared to the ones at most airports...so if we're doing 13-15,000 in just a span of 2 hours, expect the larger stations to be doing upwards of 50,000 within 2 hours.

dont blame the shipping company, blame the packager

The fact that you are conciously throwing them is what makes u a less talented package handler.

Even though you are rushed, fed ex managers, and its customers would rather see you getting a bit backed up, but doing a quality job.

You r the type of handler is always in danger of losing teh job.

I've thrown my number of packages, but once you get the hang of it all, you realize you can do alot more than just throw. Like scan, load, run. Bust your *** a bit b4 u bust someones package is how i see it.

I've been injured in trying to keep things going smoothly, I've got my number of cuts and scrapes. But the lazy people who throw things are the ones that really push my buttons.

Like i said thought, im guilty myself, but you should never openly throw a package.

People do need to package the item better, because you will always get someone that will throw it.

an like i said, im sorry dude. If u were getting something shipped to westland, livonia, garden city, or wayne MI, I would have made sure your package didnt leave the terminal like that. More like Fed EX would call you an get it straightened out.

You are both right you know.

First of all, the shipping company shouldn't be throwing packages around. I can understand the occasional hard set down on a really heavy package, maybe sliding, but a package should never go in the air, there is just never a reason for it.

Secondly the person shipping the product should always prepare for the worst. It's not that difficult to package a subwoofer to take a significant amount of abuse, really, it's not. As stated, packing peanuts will not keep the contents of a box from moving.

In a perfect world both the packager and the shipper would do their jobs perfectly and nobody would ever have problems, however we do not live in a perfect world, and in the world we do live in it is MUCH easier to pin the problem on the packager. So whether you like it or not, if you don't package something to be ready for the worst, when it happens, you have nobody to hold accountable for damage except yourself unless you've got a **** good lawyer and lots of money.

im sorry but im not the one in danger of losing a job. in fact i went from downloading trucks to scanning Indies and Memphis in a week. my manager saw my downloading as fast as possible my first week (i always try to make an impression at every job) and was promoted to scanner the week after. every scanner on top side of our station has been there for about 2 years...im one of the first rookies to ever go up there in less than a month, i routinely fill up an AMJ, and an AAY, and at the end of the month sometimes 2 AMJ's and an AAY. and i dont know where you work, but at our station all of our P1 has to be out by 6:30pm. we start the sort at 5:10pm...that gives us about an hour and a half to move about 5-8,000 P1 into the cans. we're voted as t he top station in our district. so dont tell me how to do my job.
