the US Amps MD2 would be great for them IMO maybe even a MD3 if money permits they are very nice amps

I have used both the MD2 and MD3. They will take .5 ohm, but I don't know if they will take .5 for years in the hot sun. The MD3 new is a little more expensive than the typical used IA 20.1.

Personally, I would go with the kicker over either. You get the best power at 2 ohms. I would rather have 2.5k@2ohms than ~2k@.5 ohms.

I may be wrong but I think/believe/understand it takes a more stable electrical supply at those lower ohms.

Did you have some sort of bad experience with the SAZ-1500D or do you say this since the 20.1 is a more powerful amplifier? If it is the former I am curious what it was since I haven't heard anything negative first hand from any customers, if the latter, then you are right -- the 20.1 is a larger and more powerful amplifier.

Of course I don't know the price point he's targeting either. Because I'm lazy.

SS will be running the MD3 at .5 ohm 8 of them i beleive, may be mistaken though

1) Compete in SPL

2) Use a small enclosure

He would probably want to have the extra juice from a 20.1 on hand, as you said. If he's using a moderate to large enclosure you can wang a pair of Mags to full excursion with the power from a single SAZ-1500D. I know Nick (SI) and Ben (Low-Hz) are quite happy with the results of a pair of Mags and an SAZ-1500D.

Of course, it would all depend on just HOW loud he wants to be and his enclosure size (power needed to get to x-max).
