Amp wiring help

I had a 4 channel alpine and a mono hifonics powered with 4 gauge split from 1 gauge through a distribution block. They both have 4 gauge grounds that meet at the same point on the chassis. The remote wire for the 4 channel alpine was stripped at a point and I attached another length of remote wire for the hifonics to that point.

Initially, the 4 channel worked fine, but the hifonics would turn on and not send a signal. I went and bought a cheap mono amp just to test it out and hooked it up in the hifonics place. All of a sudden the 4 channel turns on with the keys out of the ignition and the new mono wont even turn on.

did I somehow mess this up?

I suggest a relay for your rem wires and go back and check grounds. It is possible that you purchased a bad amp and it is somehow shorted internally and sending +12V back thru the rem wire and turning on your other amp.
