So here's what happened I was driving n I smelled something burnt n my amp n subs stopped working..so then I knew my amp bbroke..so the next day I askd my friend to let me borrow his amp..I hooked it up to the subs n the subs worked for a little bit then stopped..my subs won't work on the amp so I panicked..I called my friend to test out the subbs in his car cuz I was tryna figure out if it was the speaker wires but it wasn't it wouldn't work on his amp also..so my subs broke..and I was borrowing them from a friend..omg..I'm in deep sh*t! I need some suggestions on what I should do and what happened to the subs..is it fixable? Maybe its the wiring inside the box or subs I'm not sure..please help me...

Thankyou

try to push the cone of the subwoofer in, if it feels really stiff like revrider mentioned then you've got a melted voice coil. You can have it fixed, but it won't be cheap or worth the cost depending on the type of woofer.

I'm guessing since you guys were just swapping subs, it would probably be cheaper to replace them.

One thing you could look at is what ohm you guys were hooking them up at.

Some amps wont run certain loads

Here are a few tests for you to perform:

-Try pushing the sub cone, lightly and in a linear motion. If you hear scratching or rubbing, your voice coil is fried. However, if the box is sealed, then they sub may just be kind of stiff anyway.

-Get your hands on a DMM, a digital multi meter. They can measure voltage, current, and resistance. Unhook the subs from the amplifier. Set the DMM to measure ohms (looks like a horseshoe), make sure it's on a setting like 20 ohms. Stick one probe on the + on the speaker box and the other probe on the - on the speaker box. What does it read? If it reads 0 or infinity, one or more of your voice coils are blown.

Do you know the impedance of the subwoofers? Are they singe or dual voice coil? How are they wired?
