amp problems

ok so i finnaly upgarde my subs to the 2 mtx 5500's in the thunder enclosure.

i hook them up last night i turned them up they started cutting out, then today they just stopped playing all together.

i take it to circuitcity where i got the amp and subs the guy looks replaces the fuse on the amp kit and says ooooo there is the problem and replaces the fuse on the amp.

so i leave cc and i am not even out of the parkin lot and it does the same and starts cutin out when i turn it up around 15 out of 34.

so i go back and the guy tells me i may need a bigger amp come back tommarow

is this a bunch of b.s. cuz i never rememeber that underpowering a sub will cause the amp to cut out.

and the amp i have is the kicker kx400.1

What is the impedence of the woofer? Are you running the amp too low?

Blowing fuses is a sign of a bad ground or the power supply in the amp is going out...check the ground.

Shop at mom and pop shops/ brick and mortor...Avoid big boxes.

ok i checked everything tightened everything and i noticed that the ground was loose that they had done. so i took a bigger screw a used the same hole that was the very bottom of the car and got a very snug fit on the ground.

i turn it on and it does the same thing and turns off.

i was messin with it and noticed that when i have the bass on the headunit down all the way i can get it up to 25 without it cutting out.

on the amp the bass boost is 3/4 up, gain is 1/4 up and frequency is aron 1/4 up with 200 bein the most. ( im pretty sure its 200hz)

Either you have the subs wired wrong and you are sending the amp into protect mode, or you might have a bad power supply in the amp. I'd double check the wiring, and then get the amp tested if the subs are wired correctly.

it wouldent be the subs becuse i never popped them outta the box they cae in the mtx thunder enclosure.

and the ground cant be bad cuz it is screwed very snug to the metal of the car.

how they have it grounded is the ground, then spacer, then screw. is this right?

i am starting to wonder if it is the amp goin bad.

hopefully th guy can figure this out tommarow

Just because you bought the subs in a pre-loaded enclosure, doesn't mean they can't be wired wrong. manufacturers make small mistakes like that all the time. You may have a bad amp, but it only takes 5 minutes to pull the subs out of the box to see if they are causing the problem. And when you go back to Circuit City or wherever you got the stuff, DO NOT let them convince you to buy a bigger amp unless you actually want it. Underpowering your subs will not harm the amp or the subs unless you are clipping the signal because of a high gain, bass boost on, etc.

Mainly sounds like the amp is clipping and as a safety feature its putting its self into protect, if you can turn the bass down on your hu and turn the volume up more with no problem then thats your problem, try this:

Turn all the settings on your amp all the way down, then set your hu settings where you like them, then turn the volume of the hu where you normally listen to it, or up until it starts sounding distorted, then back it up a few notches, then go to your amp and move the gain up to 1/2, then up to 3/4 and if thats still not enough move the bass boost up to 1/2 gain and that should cure your problem

i will check the subs

but that was what i was tryin to get it, this guy wants me to buy a bigger amp to solve the problem when i dont need too.

ok i checked the sub wiring and they are single 4. says 2 ohm on out side of box wiring looked ok.

i have a check up at 7:30 so i will see what he says
