I just bought an older Lanzar SL800D optidrive off ebay. 500w @ 2 ohm, 800w @ 1 ohm. Just hooked it up tonight and am getting some very loud low frequency noise out of 1 of the channels.
THis is supposedly an mono block amp, yet it has 4 inputs. It also has 2 sets of speaker outputs. When I plug 2 inputs into 1 and 2...I get the noise. I mean..the amp is unusable at that point. It seems to be mainly input 2. On inputs 3 and 4 its ok. I'm not sure if i need to use both sets of inputs to get full power out of the thing. THe manual does say.."use either signal source-using BOTH will not damage the amplifier". So that makes me think that I can run a set of RCA's to either 1-2 or 3-4 and be ok. What I dont know is if I'm getting full power by not running into all 3.
On the speakers outs...heres another weird thing: In the book it lists that to run a single sub...use the + terminals off BOTH sets of outputs. WTF? I tried it and of course I get nothing... When I hook up 1 positive on one set and the negative on the other channel...it works. That seems to me to be the proper way to run it.
I'm not sure if i should just send the thing back and get my money back (only paid $120 for it) or just try and run it using inputs 3-4. I'm planning on running a pair of 10" JL 10w6v2's off it @ 1 ohm. Right now I've got 1 hooked up at 2 ohms and it sounds ok.
Suggestions? Is that 2nd channel blown?
