Amp ?: Optimal wiring for 4 speakers/sub

I went from a smaller 5 channel amp (ran 4 speakers and sub at 40x4 rms) to a larger amp, (75x4 rms) that does not have an individual spot for a sub, so I am not sure how to wire it all up to get the best sound from the system.

Here is my set-up:

Head Unit: Alpine cd 9847 (18x4 rms)

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500CDA9847/Alpine-CDA-9847.html?tp=5684&tab=features_and_specs

Front Component Speakers: Infinity Kappa 50.7 cs 5 1/4" (2-85 RMS)

Rear Speakers: Infinity Kappa 692.7i 6"x9" (2-110 RMS)

Rear Sub: JL 10" 10w3D4 (250 w Continuous)

Amp: Eclipse EA 4000 4 channel amp (75x4 RMS)

*How should I connect the speakers to get the max sound out of them?*

Thanks for the help!

run the rear 6x9's off deck power...bridge rear ch of 4 ch amp to your subs.....front chs of amp to your front componets....
Will the 18w's from the head unit be enough to run the 6x9's that can take 110w? I tried to run these speakers off a 40x4 amp and they sounded terrible.

yea the rears dont need high power if anything it would sound better with them having less power than more power, The 18rms watts from the headunit will do them fine. Does it actually specify that it is 2-110 rms watts per speaker? if so they are basically telling you the speakers dont need a lot to sound good, so your fine.

Thanks for the help figuring this out. I did have 40 watts to these speakers and they sounded bad, the guy at Crutchfield told me I needed a bigger amp to make them sound right.

On the Infinity manual, it says these are 110 w rms, 330w peak, all at 2 ohms.

Here are the specs on the rear 6x9 from Crutchfield:

2-way 6"x9" speakers

2-ohm impedance for extra power (compatible with all factory or aftermarket car stereos)

Plus One woven-glass-fiber woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround

1" rotating UniPivot M.M.D. dome tweeter

computer-optimized outboard crossover with tweeter level control

power range: 2-110 watts RMS (330 watts peak power)

frequency response: 35-25,000 Hz

sensitivity: 95 dB

Do not run the 2 ohm 6x9 off a 18W head unit. If you do not have room for another mono amp, you do not have room for a sub. Quit trying to put 15 gal of shit in a 5 gal bucket with the help of some duct tape and cardboard.

Personally, I prefer Gorilla Glue Duct tape, it works miracles //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

All I know is that I hooked an alpine 40 w RMS amp to the 6x9's and they sounded like crap. So I personally don't believe that this head unit (18w RMS) should run these speakers.

Ideally, what is your rec for the right wattage amp to run my 4 speakers listed and then what amp to run the sub?

something you should know about that Eclipse Ea series amp. IT IS NOT 2 OHM STABLE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM! i ran the ea2000 and couldn't believe this myself so i called Eclipse to verify and that is wat the tech told me.

you may smoke your HU running 2 ohm speakers to it. There realy isnt anything you can do except, get a mono amp. get another 5 channel, or lose the 6x9's and run 1 coil to each rear channel. That will give you a 2x75 to the front and a 150 watt to the sub.

You could try this, but it may smoke the amp and have low sub output, and it involves crossovers,

You will need crossovers on the sub wiring, but i didnt draw them in, and its probly not going to work for you anyway.

You guys rock! Thanks for the help! Ok, so it definitely sounds like I NEED to get another amp for the sub. (The weird part is that the vehicle I took this out of sounded great with the 4 channel amp running the sub, although I guess it was a matter of time b/f it went up.)

So, would it then be best to run the 4 speakers off the eclipse 75x4 amp and then buy an amp to run the 10" JL sub.

That Eclipse amp (which is now rumored to only be 4 ohm stable) will not work with you 2 ohm speakers. You need 2 new amps. or 4 new speakers that are 4 ohm.
Bingo, thanks! Did not even consider that!

How would this Alpine PDX-5 amp run the system?

From Alpine on this amp....

"PDX amplifiers have the unique capability to deliver the same power output regardless of 2Ω and 4Ω loads. This provides the ultimate in system flexibility and subwoofer configuration diversity."
