Amp ?: Optimal wiring for 4 speakers/sub

Hey Edzy you seem to know a lot and I'm sort of in a similar situation. Maybe you can help?

I just put in pair of Polk db651s (rated at 4 ohms) in the front door and rear deck with the idea of adding a 250w rms sub for the bass. A 5 channel amp would be the simple solution, however, there are limited options for those amps. I want to go with a 4 channel amp because they are a little cheaper and I think it will give more wiring options down the road. I would wire the front parallel, the rear parallel, and bridge the last 2 channels to the sub. If I wire this setup, would it damage the amp to have the polks sending 2 ohms and then the sub sending 4 ohms (I was thinking DVC for the sub, again because it gives more options)? Is that even possible?

Any help you could provide would be major. Thanks.

yes. it can be done, depending on the amp.

Channel 1 - FL and FR speaker = 2 ohm load

Channel 2 - RL And RR speakers = 2 ohm load

Channel 3 and 4 bridged to a 4 ohm load for sub.

Now as it can be done, there are issues.

1. make sure the amp is capable of 2 ohm operation.

2. you will lose either front and rear fade or left and right balance on the speakers.

3. you will a crossover on the sub or speakers, or an amp that can be configure to do that, such as a Phoenix gold XS4600. Im sure there many others that have built in xovers for front and rear channels.

4. You will need a dvc 2 ohm sub wired to 4 ohms on the bridged channels, Most amps are only stable at 4 ohms bridged.

And where did I imply i knew alot..lol.

This is a diagram from section 107 you should read abit on there as well.

You are the man! Yeah I've been looking at the Profile HA140 and a Kicker ZX350. I haven't checked out the Phoenix amps yet but they seem pretty inexpensive on Ebay so I'll have to read up about them. The Profile and Kicker amps are rated to be stable at 2ohms (for the speakers) and bridgeable at 4ohms (for the DVC sub). And they have built in crossovers- high pass for channels 1-2 and low pass for channels 3-4. I'll have to remember to get a 2ohm dvc sub for it. That's definitely important. Thx for the link too!
