Amp on the box?

OK, big time nooooob question here....

Is there anything wrong with mounting the amp on the sub enclosure???

Some amps can not take the vibration, some can.

I have always mounted my amps on the enclosure.....they are sitting on some fluffy carpet though:

My home sub has a huge weight in it to prevent movement, and the exterior of the box does not vibrate at all

my sub enclosure in my car vibrates a good bit

My home sub is no different than my car sub... other than it has a plate amp attached to it, and the exterior finish is different. Oh yeah, and my home sub doesn't bounce and vibrate around inside a moving automobile.

If your amp vibrates when attached to your box, you didn't brace the box well enough.

yes....speaker boxes with weight in the base to keep the box from scooting around on the floor

What does that have to do with anything? If you bolt your car sub box down, it won't move around either. Not that it matters, because it won't stop your car from moving and vibrating everything inside it as it moves down the road.

Some Amps just can not take even the small amount of movement and it will cause a failure.

Others can and work great.

I would recommend to not mount the amp on the enclosure any time you can avoid it but i understand the limitations in some system designs.

If you must mount the amp to the enclosure, use rubber grommets or spacers between the amp mounting feet and the enclosure.

This will dampen out some of the vibration.

Obviously the amps gonna be subjected to vibration no matter where you stick it, but, your right, on the box its gonna be x2 (dont see how thats good for any electronic device).

Im running 2x 18'' Fi Qs w/bp (or maybe 4 x new Mags), so Ill stick to the floor, or get a THICK rubber gasket with a mounting plate on top and mount the amp to that.
