Amp newbie

Ok. I'm just now starting to learn about amps. Here's my question. Wondering if the following is ok...

3 Channel amp - For example Kicker ZX550.3.

It's rated as follows:

# RMS Power (4 ohms) 70 watts x 2 chan. + 210 watts x 1 chan.

# RMS Power (2 ohms) 85 watts x 2 chan. + 420 watts x 1 chan.

Can I run the two channels for my door speakers at 4 ohms, and the 3rd on a sub ast 2 ohms to get some more power out of it? I want to use the 3rd channel to drive a pretty good quality 10" sub.

And what about in the situation of something like the JL Stealthbox that replaces my center console. It says it's set for 3ohm 300watt RMS. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealthbox_detail.php?fit_id=1459

yep, but from what it looks like and depending on what kind of speakers you have you'll have to wire the sub in 4ohms, so you could only give 210watts. just find a sub with an rms rating around 210rms, and you are set.

no youd have to do it either in 2ohms or 4ohms. and if you are using coaxials which i'm guessing, you could wire them to 2ohms, but youd have to use that other channel at 2ohms also. so if you run your speakers at 4ohms, you have to run the other channel at 4ohms, same for 2ohms and 1ohm ect.

Actually, for the doors, I was looking at Focal 165V2 6.5" Polyglass Components.

So, that also sounds like if I do the JL Stealthbox that's built for 3ohms, it'd have to have a dedicated amp.
