Amp in emergency mode/no sound

Hey,

Yesterday I wired up a 12" Alpine Type S to a MTX MXA4001. Bridged it, ran fused power to battery, ground to rear seat bolt after sanding it down a bit + the surrounded area, remote turn on to the corresponding wire in the back of my Sony MEX-DV2000 HU.

Initially the amp seemed to get no power, so I assumed I wired the wrong remote turn on, so I ran a wire to my wiper fuse and hooked that up to the remote turn on, and then the amp's LED lit up red. I don't know how it is supposed to light up. Is it supposed to be a solid red? Or green = healthy, and red indicates emergency mode? I know with some MTX amps red means it's getting information from the HU, but no power. I'm not sure if it's like that with all of them?

The ultimate problem is I'm getting nothing from the sub. I'm assuming either the sub connections are loose, or there's something wired wrong with the amp. Ideally it's something wired wrong with the amp, but if I can cross the amp and wiring out, then I'll have to take the sub out of the box and check the wiring.

Any idea what's up?

This is my first install by the way. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Why would you do this? You would have to turn on your wipers every time you wanted to listen to your subs.

You have wired something wrong. all fuses in your amp good?

slick butterfinger.....

the fuse is upstream of the switch. It will be hot whenever the ignition is on.

No, I just did that so the amp would turn on when the ignition is on, or the ACC.

And yep, brand new fuses. What could I have wired wrong?

Fused power to battery. Check.

RCA's from HU. Check.

Ground to sanded seat bolt. Check.

Speaker wire to sub wire terminal. Check.

Remote turn on to... wiper fuse :p. Check.

Emergency!!!!!

...

call the paramedics (911).
but seriously i would make sure you have it wired correctly and hope you didnt cause permenant emergency mode.
Why would it permanently go into emergency mode? How could I have fried it exactly?

Hmm. I wish I could help. I'm not sure what advice to give though.

Please, though, give him a break. It's just a matter of word choice - not like he's done a lot in car audio before. Technical jargon.

Is there some kind of inside joke regarding this emergency mode? I thought I heard the word used before in the context, but I might have imagined it.
Regardless, any help would be appreciated.

Its usually called protect mode but whatever floats ur boat man.

My lord, all the jokes suddenly make sense. I assumed you were just a weird group of people, but I could see how some people might find my choice of wording funny.

Anyways, thanks for clearing it up.

Ha, noted for future reference.

Alright, I stripped the amp of everything but the ground, power, and remote on, and it still has a constant red light, which leads me to believe it is simply an indication of power being supplied to the amp.

After checking the RCAs and speaker wire numerous times, I'm beginning to think that the sub my friend gave me is the culprit. He said it stopped working, so he took it out to check the wiring, but before he could he sold his car. It's not blown, the cone appears to be normal, so I can only hope there is a loose wire or something.

I'll take the sub out of the box tonight and inspect it. Anything I should look for that would cause the sub not to work? I'll replace the wiring between the sub connections and the box terminals, but I'm very unfamiliar with any other wiring in or on the sub itself.

Hopefully I won't have to buy a new sub, as getting a free sub and amp was the reason I built my ported box and purchased the wiring!
