props for having the balls to cut out that metal. can't wait to see it all finished.

how does it sound?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/2thumbs.gif.fdc3ba010dbb42b61704534b46d02fe4.gif
None of that metal provides any structural support, so it's all good.

Literally only heard it for about 2 minutes so far. VERY loud, LOTS of air moving, rearview mirror wants to quit life......

Oh yeah....kick drums have kick....actually a **** load of kick. Life is good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Nice build. I pretty much have the same vehicle, and I was wondering how does you active front sound? Is it more SQ or SPL?
I would say SQL. I really like that combo of mids/tweets. Lots of midbass, very articulate tweets, not bright, but not too laid back. I do listen to some "unplugged" stuff at times, female vocalists, jazz, etc... and I think the SQ is excellent and they get pretty loud.

Of course I have rear fill for those times I want it very loud and lean more towards the SQL side of things.

I'm still considering glassing some new lower panels for the doors to make it look better and aim the tweets a little more on axis.

btw, how do you like your deka battery? i'm thinking of getting one, seems to be getting some good reviews. can you compare it to a yellow top or kinetik??
I've never run an Optima or Kinetik, so can't really compare. The Deka had solid specs, price was right, and it was a local pick up. I think you pay a lot of $$$ just for the O or K name. I prefer to spend my $$$ other places "if" a similar product will give me the same performance. The Deka seems to do that, so I'm happy with it.

Running a single 1500D @ .75ohms with stock alt I had ZERO dimming. Haven't had a chance to lean on the new set up at night, so not sure how it'll hold up now, but I have room for one more in the trunk.

REMY on ebay is where I got it. I took the drive up there just to check the place out, but I think shipping is only around $15.

All right, got to listen for about 20 minutes at lunch time today. Burned a new demo CD, but pretty much the standard stuff I use since I know it very well.

Kiss - Detroit Rock City - pound you in the chest kick drums.

Sevenmarythree - cumbersome - just all around stupid loud. I love to crank this song.

Styx - Come Sail Away - starts out slow/mellow until about 2 minutes in. Lots of snares & kicks. Mids/subs seem to blend together very well, no obvious differences in volume from one to another.

Information Society - Pure Energy - 80's Techno I guess you'd call it. Just a loud ass crazy club mix that beat the **** out of my car.

OK time to get serious and see what these HD's will do.

Dem boyz - boyz in da hood - OMFG is it stupid loud and low. My ears gave up after about 1 minute of abuse. I'm old what can I say LOL

Mike Jones - Bad (I need a dime) After about 1 minute of this I "officially" declared my car as being loud enough to make me turn it down. Had a pounding F'ing headache by now. And that was only about 5 mintues total playing time.

One thing I noticed is that I can actually turn the gain down lower than normal and still have plenty of bass, but it seems more accurate/detailed as the subs aren't being pushed very hard or moving much.

So far the only new rattle is the rearview mirror. Going to have to get that figured out soon as it buzzes like a prop plane.

Finally had a chance to finish it up. I made panels to seal it off then put 3/4" thick foam weatherstripping tape on the edges, so it seals up nice and tight. Forgot to take pics with the weatherstripping in place...

AQ logo isn't actually that bright as I ghosted on the paint. Supposed to look airbrushed with haze/shadows around the edges. If I don't like it then it's $5 for more speaker cloth.

Originally I tried wrapping the trim panel in gray textured vinyl, but couldn't get the inside corners tight enough, so I used gray carpet instead.

I think it looks decent, and seat work fine and subs are hidden, so I'm happy with how it came out. Oh yeah......it's LOUD for a trunk car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I'll have to take a pic of the trunk, but it's NOT pretty, just functional. There's literally no room to do anything nice, so I made it the ugly side of the install. I don't pop my trunk for anyone, and ugly is loud, so it's all good....

The black is speaker cloth, so all the sound gets through. The part that's covered in gray carpet is 1/2" MDF and the inside edge of the opening lines up with the pieces on the front of the box. That make sense?

Picture the "trim panel" as a big ass speaker grill....
