Alternator Wireharness ISSUE - need help

I know the plug wont work but then What do I do with the factory plug on the car? Do I snip the wires and then wire them into the regulator box? I know somehow those have to be connected to power part of the car. The electrical engineer won't be here until 6pm tonight. He's hoping he won't have to come because it's a long drive and gas prices...

I think I need to connect the positive wire to the positive on the regulator and the neg to the neg for the factory connector on the car correct or incorrect?

Nate from excessive said to just tape off the factory connector. it won't be used and my car will run fine

^^^Thats what I've been trying to say.The plug is useless. All it does is allow the ECU to control the alternator(basically the regulator).Instead of the vehicle controling it now the "blue box" regulator is.Simply turn the dial all the way to the left, attach a DMM to the positive post on the alternator and slowly turn the dial till you read 14.7-8v on the DMM.After that your done.Simple as that.No need for engineers and shit.

I'll chime in since i'm going to have someone install it for me, but i would like to know for future references.. I have the exact same regulator from Nate. Looks like the bottom has 3 wires to plug in.. How does the regulator connect to the alternator? I have the big case gm alternator, the one wire. I was under the assumption that the one wire connects to ignition (which i confirmed in this thread too), but how does it regulate the voltage in the alternator? I havent even gotten to the point of wondering what to do with the plug, i was assuming i could get an adapter but if i dont need it, that'll make it easier. I've been waiting for nate to get back to me with instructions and exactly what cars my alt will directly bolt on to

Are you serious??Why not just pay someone to install it like the box you had built.I mean for real do some research. The regulator just REGULATES the voltage coming from the alt.It has nothing to do with the amperage.Follow the instructions written on the side of the regulator.12v positive from your battery to the POS,ground to the NEG, and the blue wire on the alt to the FLD.Make sure the dial is all the way to the left and you have a dmm on the positive post of the alt.Slowly turn the dial to the right till your dmm reads 14.7-8v.

When using the regulator the vehicle ECU no longer regulates the voltage. The plug is useless unless you re install the factory alt.It doesn't have to be hooked up to anything it can just be left alone, taped up,zip tied, whatever. It won't be used.

Now that i looked at mine again, he plugged in a single wire adapter to the plug where his has nothing i believe.. So i just hook up the ignition to that wire, but where does the external regulator hook up to the alternator? *goes to look back in the thread*

So the one wire coming off of my alternator goes to the ignition to turn it on, or it goes to the regulator? I'm going to grab my regulator and try to figure it out

I see you bolded it for me, and i missed it.. Do you have experience with GM alternators? I bought a big case GM before i had a car for it, because of the amazing price, and i'm trying to see if i can make a CS144 fit a 1997 grand prix gtp

I don't have a GM I have a Chrysler alt.I think there the most expensive ones to get a HO for!!!!At least mine was.Anyway the single wire coming off the alternator should be connected to the FLD slot on the external regulator. You will want to install a relay inline with the power wire feeding the POS slot on the regulator. You will have to hook the relay up to your ACC wire or something that turns on and off with the key.
