Alternator or other issue?

As I am new to this forum I wasn't sure where to post this or how to ask for help. I might have even answered my question. The current setup I am running when turned up halfway causes massive voltage drops. Amp will turn off until the volt gauge reads higher then 12.6. I think I need a new high output alternator but don't know how big to go. Any help an advice is appreciated.

99 chevy s-10 4.3 v6 vortec. Stock oem 100 Amp alternator. Stock battery. Havent done big 3 Or upgrade alternator or 2nd battery. All wiring is 4 gauge

Pioneer gm-A5702 bridgeable 2 channel amp

Nesa nsd-749NB 4-Channel High Power 50 X 4 Channels (Mosfet Power), Dual RCA Outputs (Front & Rear), Sub Woofer Selectable Frequency Outputs (80, 120, 160Hz) 4-volt audio output

1 12 4ohm svc pioneer max power of 1300 watts and RMS power of 300 watts, 4 Ohm impedance

S10? You gotta ext cab? I gotta 98 myself, p/u.

Anyway, onto your problem, you def need to upgrade your big 3...it's starving for more current and the stock wires isn't enough for it.

You can get a Stock amplifier at Orileys at a MAX of 140 amp is the largest they will sell for that vehicle.Deff you dont have enough demand..Get that Big3 done in 0ga..and you should be just fine for the amplifiers that you are running, with a stock batt.though Id recommend getting that AGM Super Start Plat. battery to replace the stock, will give you plenty..from my experiencing with an 97 x-cab S-10..We ran 2k on sub stage and an easy 400 on front stage with two AGMs

Pretty sure you meant alt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok sounds good. I'm still learning about the big 3. Which wires are them tho?
Pos battery to alt

Ground to frame from battery

Engine ground.

Easiest steps to follow is replace 1 wire at a time. Much like spark plug wires to prevent confusion.

Ok thank you. I appreciate the help. You are on point with that alt at O'Reilly. Called em and they have it. No one else In town has any except the stock one.
Ya..Thats the largest you can get in stock at any supply house/auto store before you have to modify the plug/or go with an HO alt..You just add the 0ga wiring for the Big 3..No need to replace existing wiring.. just add too with 0 ga at the three points..Alt to battery on Poss/+..Ground/- to ground, and Ground/- to Frame.

There's the option of going to a junkyard too....if your good with hand tools and such. Cheaper there than buying new. Up to you but just an idea to pass along to ya.

This is an option I'll take heat from others about... I'ts cheap and kept up with 2 CAB's at 4 ohm strapped... 13.8v solid at amps... it may be a little better than you can get at you local parts store...

I'ts a larger one than the factory but drops right in with the same belt...

all that is is a new ad244^

you can go to your local junkyard and find a large case GM alt for like $40 bucks lol

make sure you get the right one, research what a large case ad244 looks like. the biggest thing i noticed is that black gap between the front and back of the case

you can find them on any GM (chev/GMC) full size truck or suv including escalades

Instead of just dismissing and arbitrarily classifying the alternator ... you might want to READ the listing... LOL!.. This alt brings out more haters... LOL!.. it is capable of keeping up with this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VQA8MKFTxY ... who knows what 2 CAB's do at 1 ohm strapped... BTW... I don't want to hear any "WARNINGS" about 1 ohm strapped... I'm just gonna meter it this way... then back to 4 ohm strapped until next year... Whatever this alternator claims... IDK how close to 250 it is , but you can call them...they say they are individually tested and I had a nice conversation before I purchased... it's FAR above any stock alternator the local parts store is LIKELY to have...
