alpine type x ported or sealed

I have A Alpine type x 10 going in a silverado going to get 1000 watts rms

they want .5 to 1 cube sealed or .8 to 1.5 ported

so I can do any of the sealed sizes, or about .85 ported at 34hz

What will this have more spl with. Also if sealed what is better the bigger or smaller of the two sizes.

 
It's just the recommended sizes the manufacturer states for best performance.

Generally, you'll get a little bit better lower end extension by using the bigger sealed box size vs the smaller.

 
What does the smaller or the bigger spec do for you?


Smaller boxes usually result in a less over accentuated bottom end, which can be overcome by higher input power. Also increases the ability of the driver to handle the higher power better mechanically.

Larger boxes, do the opposite, they tend to have an overzealous bottom end, and lower mechanical power handling.

Just a basic idea for each.

I'd personally build about .75-.8 cubes sealed if you want sealed. Remember that a vehicle's cabin gain can usually make up for the lost bottom end in a smaller sealed enclosure, this is of course with the assumption that you're aren't trying to stuff your particular driver in a .25 sealed box.
