Alpine type s

Are the type s subs a decent product? My issue is I have a ram crew cab and I built an underseat box as large as possible but I'm betting there's only about 0.6 cubes per 12" sub and also have a small area the subs will fit in the box. Right now I have some old kicker comps in there and wondering if the type s is an upgrade?

The Alpine Type-S is indeed an underhung design...which is more geared towards SQ than SPL. That being said, I modeled the SWS-12D4 in .6 cubes and it's really not a good match. The SWS-12D4 wants to see a sealed box volume of about 2.6cubes to yield a QTC of .706 and Fsc around 44hz. Using a .6 cube sealed box you're looking at a QTC of about 1.013 and Fsc around 66hz....not very desirable numbers.

With .6 per sub I would recommend the Sundown SD3-10. You could feed them about 400rms before reaching xmax. In a .6 cube box your QTC will be around .789 and Fsc around 48hz. The SD3-10 is also an underhung design.

So dropping down to 10's will yeald better performance over the 12's?
Problem is .6 cubes is pretty small for a 10, let alone a 12. Many 12's will 'work' but the response will likely be 'peaky' with a lack of low-end extension. I think a nice pair of 10's would yield a more natural and even sound.
