They redesigned it totally. Different surround, better power handling, bigger sub all around. not sure about how they sound compared to 04. they discontinued the 04's.

k i was on the site...and there are two types...Alpine SWR-1042D (500rms 1500max) and

Alpine SWR-1041D (300rms 1000max)...r these both 05? or one of them 04?

and which is better? 04 or 05?

The SWR-1042D is the 2005 model, and the SWR-1041D is the 2004 model.

the 05 will prolly hit a little harder. not much though maybe a couple db's, but thats it. the thing is they can actually handle like 600-700 watts rms daily...the are way underrated. i have 2 of the 04 models with 450 watts goin to each. they say 300 rms but they can take much more than that. i have heard of people on here sending 600 watts to the 04 model.

I have 2, 2004 10" Type R's and i love them. So, unless they modified the sub to make it worse, im sure you'll be very happy. As for power handling, i know the 2004 model can handle like 650-700 rms in a small enough box. The Type R's are a great sub though, and the new ones look like a good buy as well.

i have one alpine type R 05, ran at one ohm on my hifonics bx1500d, thats 1500 wrms or 1380 whatever, either way i have the gain about half way, maybe a little more for daily it takes good, i can almost hear it saying i want more, but im afraid to, o well , and it sounds better than the 04 too, ive owned one of each in practically the same box

I have 2 05 12" dual 2 ohm type r's and my Orion 1200D is at .5 ohm. Loud as hell and still has good SQ. I would say at least 800 watts each.
