Alpine Type R's 12" not hitting hard

Alright, well I just bought a brand new system. I got a MRP-M1000 Alpine amp and 2 Alpine SWR1242D subwoofers. I know that the amp is perfect for the system, but I got it all plugged up and it only bumps when the volume is maxed out. Anything below the max volume and the subs are barely bumping. I know that they should probably bump a little louder than what they are.

What do you guys think is the problem? I got the little 2ohm splitter connected to the subs, and everything is getting power, just not bumping as hard as I'd expected it to.

Thanks a lot!

..set your gain up..and check the settings on the head unit..I have 2 type Rs..with a sony amp pushing 200watts to each. and they absolutely slam, they drown out my highs even on -6 (-10 to +10 range)..

Gain is set at half way. The headunit settings are all configured for the subs to push. I had 2 15's at one point in time with the same headunit. So I know the headunit is all set up.

My HU is a Phase Linear UV8. I have the speaker wire coming out of the amp to one subwoofer, then I have a short piece of speaker wire connecting both subs.

1) make sure subs are wired correctly

2) make sure they are in a decent box (4.5cu ft ported at 32-34hz will get those things slammin)

3) learn to set your gains properly

4)what kind of vehicle?

5)what headunit? some alpines put out low signal voltage unless the bass level is tuned up a ways

Subs in phase? Not too sure I know what that means...How would I know if they are in phase?

Subs should be wired correctly - I am going to take them out and re-check.

That's the box I got...

Where do I learn to set gains properly?

Vehicle is a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Headunit is a Phase Linear UV8. Everything on the subwoofer side is cranked all the way up.

Thank's a lot for your responses.

Out of phase means that one sub is wired polar opposite of the other sub. That would be like having one sub wired right, POS+ output on amp to POS+ input on sub, and the other sub would be backwards, POS+ output on amp to NEG- input on sub.

first im going to tell you that the box in my avy came from the same place you got yours, cept i had to modify it.the lip on the ports, top and bottom, both sides of box, needs to be taken down flush with the bottom board.by doing this alone,it will sound 100 times better, plus have a little more output.if you leave the lips on it,its causing the bass to overlap before it comes out of the ports.plus more than likely as in my case as well, the ports dont have enough area.

oh yea, mobilesoundworks is full of shit when they say their boxes are specifically for a certain sub when they list the same box for a re sx,cvx, cvr and so on.not only did i eliminate the lips,i allso took out quite a bit of back vent which made my box better sounding and louder allthough it never got rid of the port noise i had to start with.hope this helps

I'll take a look at my subs wiring here in a couple of minutes and make sure its all correct.

And thanks, Got Bass for that tip. My friend asked Mobile Soundworks if a certain sub would fit in one of their boxes made for a JBL or something, and they said that there is no way it would fit....a 10" sub is a 10" sub. You might need more depth, but comeon, lol.

I'll get back with you all in about an hour or less.

Thanks again!

Problem solved.

I took my subs out, found out that PURPLE was Positive, Silver was negative. Subs were connected correctly, but the wires that I used to connect the 2 subs was switched. So I had positive from the amp goin to negative on the subs, and vice versa. I changed it up and it sounds amazing now.

Thanks for all of your help guys...This forum seems pretty sweet so I'm sure I'll stick around and help out as much as I can.

Thanks again!!!
