Here is another vs thread guys. I searched and did not find this comparrison. Right now I am currently running CDT CL-61a's in the front, and looking to put those in the rear of my civic(dont have a rear fill at all right now) I have a kicker 650.4... I can do 4 channels at 120 @ 4 ohms which should be enough power...(for these 2 sets)

So..... I can get alpine 70% off, so I can get the Type-R SPR-17S's for $100+ tax.... BRAND NEW(they are about $140 or so new on ebay without warranty and I will get a warranty with the new set that I buy at my job tweeter)

Or would you go with a pair of used MB Quarts PCE-216's for around the same price? I would think that the MB Quarts would be a better quality speaker...

OR: can you tell me of some recommendations for around the same price that you would choose? I bought my CDT comps about 3 months ago or so for $100 shipped and I absolutely love them, was just looking to get a little more juice in the front, or maybe just keep the CDT's in the front and put this new set in the rear? Help me out guys.

Anything suggested is taken into consideration. Thanks!

Kris

Oh yeah as mentioned, I get big big big discounts on all Alpine, MTX, Focal, and JL products. I dont know if I have the kind of money to get the Zr series from JL(and dont know if its worth it for that matter) and dont have the money to go Focal 165k2p's or I would. I havnt heard much from MTX to even look at their speaker line up so thats why I choose the alpines in this case for $100. Is their a higher end alpine comp set that I am unaware of? Thanks.

Kris

Focal Access or Polyglass!!!!!!! The Polys I would take over the Alpines and the MBs, just my personal taste, both are still pretty good comps though

but between Alpine and MB, I would take MB and im assuming the used ones are a member's here trying to sell them, i think its "fatryan", ive heard the PCEs and they sound great!!

Alpine has 2 lines of Type X. They don't show them on their usa website. You can look at the austraulia website and I believe they have them on there. I had a set of the Type R's and the tweets were really bright. If you work for a shop you should be able to get the entry line type x for under $200 and the upper end for around $300 or a little more. I can't remember. I checked the other day but can't remember the numbers.

Yeah hes the dude sellin em, just not sure if I have the money at the moment but I should in about a week or so...I have bought stuff on this forum used before and have enjoyed it so thats really not the issue...just the CDT's I have now really do lack the lower end freq, which I know most budget speakers in this range do lack the low freq's but the comparrison is so close that I really dont know what to choose. im kind of leaning torward both in different aspects.

I know exactly what your talking about but they arent on the USA website as said...I think I can get those for $180 or so.... maybe 150 but def under 200. Im not sure if I can get them though, I assume I could because well tweeter is authorized for alpine...but then again if im going to spend $200, I dont think I would go alpine.....hmmm who would?

I haven't heard any of the new ones but I loved the way the old blue cones sounded. The midrange was warm and smooth. I had a set in my truck. The upper end one that looks like the scan drivers is a little more. But then again...if you can build some crossovers there are lots of raw drivers that can be bought in that price range.

There is a drop down list at the left of this page:

hmmm interesting, still alot to think about..

I think the Quart Premium series would be closer to the alpine X.

If you can get them for under $200, the MTX TXC6.1 are great. Second choice out of the brands you listed that you can get at a discount would be Alpine X.

The Focal and JL are great speakers, but overpriced compared to the others.

Do you work at a shop or just know the right person?
