Hello, My friend asked me if I wanted to buy his Alpine 6.5" Type R's for $80. I know he has taken care of them and the only reason he is selling is because there to deep for his application and he bought MTX 6.1's. They were loud and crisp enough to play with his two MTX 8512's and his MTX 8510's (Installed at diffrent times) so will they be loud enough for a Fi 18" BTL on an Orion 2500D and is it a good deal?

Also this is in a 94 Tahoe 2 dr (With 95 interior) and the rear speakers are 4x10's. Alpine does not make 4x10's and I have a huge thing about matching. It took me a while to get over the fact that Fi dosent make amps and components (Why is beyond me..Id buy them) I have seen adaptors for two 4" in each hole, but would I be better off just pulling them out and mounting tweeters near my back seat?

Unless they come up with something remarkably different, I wouldn't want them to. There's enough cookie-cutter stuff out there already.

And I'm not a fan of Type R components.

well resistance doesnt really matter if you know what you're doing - just get the right amp... but i heard the only bostons worth really buying are the pro's and they're gonna be a lot mroe than $80 lol

you gotta give us a budget

I was thinking around $250 to $300 but I kinda like his Type R's...but only cause they wernt mine. I was going to buy the type R's for now and buy Zapco's later, but that wouldent be very money wise. Also I do want sil tweeters..I dont like the sound of titanium

shit, not to be the odd ball. But I have a set of 6.5 alpine type r comps and they are perfect. I have them running off a zx4000 hifonics amp and couldnt ask for more. They are clean and loud. I think i paid 110 shipped off ikesound for 2007 models. I dynamatted my door and made a sealed pod for them in my door of my 00monteSS. I also have alpine type r 6x9's in the rear that sound good as well but i turned off the rear. For 80 bucks, I dont think you can go wrong. pm me if you got any more questions.

well if the OP likes how they sound then go for it.. its your ears.. but as you said if you're gonna replace them eventually then it might be a waste of money in the long run but odds are you can make most of it back... zapcos are good choice man =)

and when it comes to silk tweets... you can find very smooth sounding metal ones.. the quality of the driver is more important than the mateial... but a cheaper silk dome will probaly sound better than a cheaper metal dome.

and chevy - my rabbit will fk your dog up =)

I recently got ahold of some Type-R components myself and have mixed feelings about them. Of course, they are power hungry, so I'm putting my old RF 400x4 (yes, old school george foreman RF goodness) back in use. The tweeters are quite loud, without being harsh... and I'm sure that I'm not feeding them enough power just yet because male voices just lack authority is most rock music but rap is fine, also female voices shine pretty well on the power I'm giving them...which isn't much power at all. I also still have some tuning to do on my HU.

Overall, on the power I'm giving them, I'm mildly impressed with the components. I can hear the amp distorting the signal to the speakers just when they start to perk up. Feed em at least 50w RMS and you should be good.

With your budget of around $250, I'd seriously consider the Pioneer TS-C720PRS, the Cerwin Vega V MAX 65, or the PPI 365CS as alternates.

However, if you like the way the Type R's sound with all of the music you prefer, go for it! That's a pretty decent deal for a set of those.
