Not going to lie -- when I met Alpine's engineer at CES I was pretty impressed with him and what he's been doing over there.

How do you feel about the 2.5in coil on such a small spider? Seems it would limit excursion/low end frequency ability.

Quite possibly a misprint somewhere if you read that -- the 8" Type-R uses a 1.6" diameter coil :

Plenty of spider with that coil size and their custom frame.

There are a few online retailers that list a 2.5in coil. The 2nd link was a good read, I dont have an account on diyma so I wasnt able to see any of those links or pics.

I love the Rs. When Jacob can support a product while comparing to his own. I find that truly enjoyable. Sundown/alpine both make great products regardless. I have been happy using both at different times.
