I'm looking into getting some comps for my 2000 Taurus. Right now, I'm leaning towards some Alpine type-r 5 1/4". I've listened to these at circuit city and thought they sounded pretty good. Is there anything in their price range or slightly above that sounds better? Most of what I listen to is classic rock, so I'm not a bass fanatic or anything. Any opinions are appreciated.

I owned the SPR-136A very nice comps for the price. They also get loud with low power, I had them running off my Hu for a little while they still sound alright. The tweeter is a little bright but not to bad. I no longer own the car that i had them but very nice comp's. The other brand you might wanna look into is CSC50s by Crystal MobileSound.

thanks for the insight. I was planning on amping them eventually, but not right when i bought them. ill look into the crystals too, maybe a local dealer will have them...thanks again.

hey koBan715, i found the crystals for 150 with the option of either a silk or a titanium tweeter, which would you recommend? I've heard mostly negative views about the titaniums, but whats your opinion. btw, do you have these comps? is $150 a reasonable price for them?

Silk there better. The crystals are better that the alpine type-r's. Thats not a bad price a little more than the apline but over all they have better SQ and cleaness.

well i just went over to one of the local audio stores. I listened to the type-r's, a set of type-x's, focals, and some jl's. The focals sounded the best by far, so im considering spending the extra money and getting the focals over the crystals.

Depends on the person...to each their own tastes and preferences:) Your talking about Alpines Flagship components right?

golovko - Go with which ever speaker sounds the best to your ears and you wont be dissapointed.

Great speakers, accurate and tight. Alpine needs a subwoofer on their F1 line:)
