If you're getting an Alpine, don't get anything from this year's line. The CDA-9835 from '04 is bad ***. You can still find the 9855 from 05, but I think it's a step down from the 35, and you have the hassle of the glidetouch. Of course, the main question to ask is what do you want it to be able to do?

I own a 9855, and I love the glidetouch...though I do admit its not for every one. So I say Alpine>eclipse, but im biased...both have exceptional control and features.

He means in controlability, The 9855, and 9835 are esentially the exact same HU with some minor differences in Graphics, and the 55 has glidetouch. Most old school alpine users hate glidetouch thats why they opt for the 35. Me on the otherhand, im one of the few hardcore old school alpine guys that I know that likes glidetouch...Its all up to personal preference

I had the same decision and I ended up going with an Eclipse 8445. The Glide touch scared me off from the Alpine. Too many said they didnt like it. As for the 8445... I really like it...but it is missing a few "no brainer" type of features:

* No way of turning the sub completely off. (For troubleshooting or just listening to your front/rear speakers)

* No pause control for cd/mp3. What the???? basic basic basic!!! Cant believe they dont have that....

You're missing one thing...The 9835 was the last Alpine HU with the V-Drive amplifier, which you all probably know is 27 watts rms, 60 watts peak. The 9855 stepped down to an 18 watts rms, 50 watts peak amplifier.

Now this may be irrelevant depending on whether you're even going to use the internal amp or just have it turned off like I do, but I figured I'd point it out.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and glide touch sucks.
