I prefer Eclipse to Alpine. You need to check out both though and see what you think(and hear).

I still go with comparing brands(since a less expensive model from one brand may still sound better than a more expensive model from another brand....I have seen that happen)

Agreed, not to mention Brands have customer service and support, not individual models.

I am debating this same topic....I had an Ecplise 55040 (SQ) unit for the last 4 years, but now looking for a newer model with mp3 support.

My plan is to use the H701 processor, so whatever HU I choose, I would like it to connect preferably digital to the H701. I like the features of the Alpine 9860 especailly for this reason. It will work perfect. I was just trying to determine if I would get better SQ from an Ecplise HU instead?

But if the Ecplise does not connect digital to the H701, whatever SQ improvement I might benefit from with the Ecplise unit, I would loose since it does not offer digital output..

So, I think I am better off going with Alpine with something like the 9860, which should have BETTER SQ than the Ecplise when hooked to the H701? Can anyone give any positive sugggestions on this? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

The 04 and 05 top models (8454 and 8455) do have digital in and out. The 06 lines have dropped the digital inputs.
