Is There A Better HU Out There for $270?

If you're willing to buy used, you can find plenty of quality HUs in that range.

Some to consider:

Pioneer Premier 860MP

Alpine 9835, 9815, 7996, etc.

Eclipse CD8053

Sony CDX-C910

etc etc..

6th ave has the Kenwood Excelon x-889 for $218 + $.06 (yes six cents) shipping. Deal of the century there, the only thing this HU cannot do is active crossovers, but the 2 high pass and low pass xovers it does have are very versatile and flexible with 10hz increments between 40 and 100 for low pass and high pass, plus 12, 18, and 24 db slopes. Then there is theTime aligment, SRS WOW, G analyzer (lol), and 24 bit burr brown D/As. It'd slap those alpines silly SQ wise.
