Please help, no experience in strange sounds coming from subs

I was bumpin on the way to work today, and there was a song playing with a bass sweep in it from high to low....when it went down low, I noticed a loss in low end power, and sounded like the sub was slapping for a second or 2... Now my system is running at about 85%... The subs still plays, but it makes a sound as if something was rattling around inside it....

Does this mean I blew the sub, or blew a voicecoil......other?????

Got warranty?

It wasnt there before the sweep - it was there after. Sound comes from woofer, and you havnt touched anything

Sounds to me like you focked her up, probably played too low of a frequency or something

No warranty

I agree, I just want to know if someone has had similar problems....might be able to tell me if its just a loose tinsel, or a blown V.C..... Its just weird, cause a little bit ago when I was comin home for the night, I was crankin it, and it was playin at like 90%...again, just the lows is where it sounded weaker...which makes me think its the tinsel....but I really don't know.

I'm not sure what it was, but my first system I had three Alpine Type E 10's in my F-150(Dont ask) on a Memphis 1000D

Same exact thing happened to three or four of the E's

You could even take the sub, pick it up, and it'd rattle. Still played "fine" except for at lower notes when the noise was more audible. I just returned those though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i highly doubt its the tinsels... sounds like the spider separated from the cone... did you hear a metal thwacking sound when you basically ran the sweep and bottomed the sub out? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i got an idea!

why dont you take the sub out....and.....with your eyes.....look to see if the tinsels are messed up?

if they arent, then chances are its the spider?

as for recone kits for alpine gear, it may be cheaper to just get new subs.

darn, that sucks... Sry I don't know the terminology properly.. Im not talking about the tinsels, Im talking about the coiled up wire that is wrapped around and around and around... I see some pics of it all mangled up when people blow a sub sometimes.

and yea, kinda.. it wasnt that loud, but if this is the case, would it still be thumpin at like 90%?

I will find out later... I need someone else here to help me get it out of the trunk.

if you bottomed it out you may have damaged the coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

but still, take the darn thing out and tell us the results
