Age old question: 10" or 12" sub

Ok here's the deal. I've got 2 10" MTX 4500's in my trunk right now. They are in seperate sealed boxes on opposite sides of the trunk facing each other. I think they maybe cancelling each other out (if that is possible). Or at least interfering with each others sound wave. They sound kinda muddy. Yeah I know MTX 4500's are not exactly top of the line. Anyway. I have been toying with the idea of just upgrading to a single 12" sub. I can bridge my amp and get 600 wrms. I have decided on an Alpine Type R. Now for my question..... Would I notice that much difference if I bought an Apline Type R 10"????? I didn't realize they made them in that size until recently. It would be so much easier to just swap out the sub instead of cutting out the box to fit the 12" sub. So what do you think. By the way I'm not a bass junkie. I just like a little boom. Thanks.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

4500s arent very good at all,the only subs MTX makes worth using are the

7500,8500 and 9500s

1 ported 8500 12" will kill both your 4500s in SQ and SPL.

Its a totally different ball game when you upgrade

I appreciate the attempt but I guess you didn't read my post.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

i guess it all depends on the install. i have one 12'' type r, and i think it bumps really hard(yes it is my first system though) but i have a few friends that are really into car audio and they're all really impressed with it. one of my friends told me that my single 12'' sounds better than his dual 12'' setup, and he though it was a 15'' before he saw it.

If your worried about the quality of the bass as well as the quantity, and you run sealed enclosures, you should rethink the Type R. I understand they don't exactly reach their potential in a sealed enclosure, or with 600 watts.

A better alternative would be the Incriminator Audio 187 12". They cost a little less than Type Rs, have lots of output when sealed, take more power than that amp can throw at them, and sound good doing it.

Not being a brown noser about it. I've listened to Type Rs and owned 187s, and the 187 is just a better woofer IMO. Especially when sealed and given 600 watts.

It's boils down to personal preference. The one thing I can tell for sure, is for a trunk install, I would definitely go with a ported enclosure as opposed to a sealed.
