After all they're not bad at all.

Did you ever think that mabye your cousin was really treating his subwoofer right as in proper install, proper box and a clean trunk environment? Rubber surrounds will not rot just after a couple of years, at least not the woofers ive had for a while now.
I would have to agree that I'm more inclined to suspect abuse/improper maintenance on the part of the owners than the products just failing after a very brief period of time. Products rattling apart and rotting surrounds typically don't "just happen". Sounds to me like you have some friends/relatives who don't know how to take care of their equipment.

JL products are good quality products. They may not fit within your price range, and you may feel you can get just as good of a product for a lower price from other companies.....but they are well designed and well constructed products none-the-less. Are they 100% failure free? Nope, and no product is.

I had a pair of 10w0, now in a friends truck that are 7 yrs old and are fine. Im having problems with my new audio equipment, my old stuff is perfect. Im finding out that theres a reason electroincs have come down in price. Their cheaply made.

Just so you know, all generalizations are false.

EXACTLY!!!! In Most cases thats the issue. If a company made 60 millions dollars on a product and for the next year they want to make 70 milllion, sometimes the only way of making that money is the cutting back on something and it doesnt have to be big. if they save 25 cents on by using a cheaper rubber surround they will do it, just calculate 25 cents times 200,000 speakers or simply by taking less type to produce the goods, It makes a difference, That goes for anything! ANYWAYs I will post pictures today of that 12w6v2 and you'll be the judge. I just think its non-sense. I never saw a speaker surround rot, specially on a JL AUDIO!! Do you still get my point? Ohh and how about on the HO enclosure? How can it rattle it self loose? Anyone who has worked in some type of factory should know how things work on the inside. In MASS REPRODUCTION on items the quality most of the times diminishes.

Do you know how difficult it is for rubber or foam surround to rot under any condition? I've never seen any speaker rot, not neven the Funky Pups!

Hello everyone. Its seems that EVERYBODY makes a super sub-woofer now in these days (Appearance wise) . And in most cases the technical aspects of the English language are abused by giving most of these products self proclaimed tittles and descriptions like, " The BEST woofer I've ever tested" C&A Magazine to be exact which can make the consumer go bald in decision making.

I personally believe the L7 subs are not bad and while not the best sounding, they are also not the worst sounding and not to mention, in-expensive compared to others. I've been trying to come to a conclusion on which sub to use for my set-up, but I get mixed recommendations... L7's are bad sounding, JL W7s are over rated and expensive, Cdts are expensive, Etc , etc. For example, Yesterday I looked at my cousins year old 12w6v2 and the rubber around the speaker cone is rotted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif and My brother has the HO110R-W7 rattled apart you can very loudly hear the wood rattle ling specially in the low notes, so much for JL claiming "Rock Solid" built. How can it be possible for products from a such highly credited company like JL have such defects? There's no xcuse for the surround to rot:mad: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_enclosures_pages.php?menu=1&page_id=18

They're some of us here that swear by JL Audio, but not from what I've experienced. I was considering going with JL just because their rep, but not anymore. Im strongly considering the L7s in their "SQ" enclosure instead of JLs Highly priced 12w6v2 or 12w7.

S12L7 $225-$240

12w6v2 $350-$380

12W7 $520

I've owned a pair of both 10w6v2s and S12L7s, so I'm basing my opinion on my experiences with these products.

If you don't care much about $$ I guess JL would be the one, but if you like to get the best that your money can buy, you might re-consider.

PS: I remember My first set of C12A4 Kickers with my Bass Explosion USA 3 cd seeing peoples faces when driving down the streets:D and they were only $70.

how are w7's over rated and over priced?

If JL is aware of this subs capabilities, why didnt they just "glued" the enclosure together. Even I know that glue under some circumstances may fail, specially in the trunk of a car where the temperature and moisture constantly changes. I understand your point of view clearly, but this box was bought brand new from an authorised JL distributor and this box was securely installed and never removed until recent. I can bet that a custom made enclosure has better quality that HO enclosure. Its like comparing a new rockford fosgate amp to the old one. Remember even though they make awsome equiptment JL is no longer what they used to be. "No matter how much skill you have, it's difficult to maintain it once you decide that you're good enough"! Well if your friend is also from Jersey there is no telling what is making his sub rot. I don't think you can blame that on JL.
