if you have not heard a pro-box, you might be surprised too..don't knock it til ya tried it. They tune a lil high, but on most recorded music like Rock, Metal, Country, Classical, etc., they sound pretty good and the build quality is as good or better than most boxes I have seen period...Nothing to them that a little eq can't fix. If you listen to much synthesized bass material like dubstep, for example, a custom lower tuned enclosure would be wise, for sure.

These might be yesterdays news and a bit more expensive than other choices, but you may want to take a look at Image Dynamics IDMAX. You get SQ of IDQ, near one inch of one way linear xmax, and 1000watt RMS power handling. To tell the truth, using these would probably be kind of a waste in SPL application unless you also enjoy playing some well recorded sq tracks. Perhaps sundown or alpine type-r would fit the bill. I may be wrong, but type-r seems to be geared more towards sealed box applicaion with EBP of 51, while most people seem to like sundown subs in ported box. Maybe this would help you to choose.

HDCs are pretty expensive anyway. What would be the difference between XFLs and SAs?

Get two xfls ive seen them on 3 k each daily ..and throw that probox away and get a custom box

Coming from a sundown nut hugger..... For the price, you cannot beat the xfl. Hell I can get a xfl 12 for cheaper than the sa8. You mean to tell me that a 3" coil woofer that can handle 2k + daily hit good numbers and under $200 is not worth it? You sir can gtfo of here with all the hate.
