Aeroports can decrease port size by 50%???

here is a nice little post i found by "doctorbass" from termpro. this describes a test he did between a regular round port that causes excessive turbelance, and a flared port where the flare, as shown earlier, decreases vent velocity.

Very surprizing!

I measured the difference between aeroport and normal tube without flare...

And got 7 dB diff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I toke account of the tuning frequency.. (i calculate the lenght of each to keep the same frequency) because flared port have virtual lenght longer than a normal tube..

my peak frequency was the same in both tube.. but not dB !!!

Turbulence decrease alot dB on the normal tube!!!

Note that i tried with external port.. the tube output end was not flush to the box, but exterior..

Maybe i will try same test with internal port (flush to the box)... I guess that the diff dB will be less cause the angle at end will be 90 degre and not 180 for the air flow in and out..

Doc

you might have seen this post on ROE...i go by explorer on there. decided to post the response over here as well.

7db??? thats quite a gain...

It's a easy 1-3 db gain from slot to aeroports.

polecat and toxic agree there should be quite a gain as well.

i didnt expect 7dbs out of Doctorbass' setup, but that of course will vary from setup to setup. maybe the round port was too close to the back wall, and when he added a flare, it reduced pressure on the back side of the port and basically "un-choked" it.

is that swapping sq in for sq in? or is that decrease in port area as well?
i really dont know, youd probably have to ask him.

imanmp3pimp: hell yea. there are times you can get away with no bracing other than the port walls //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I gained 1.6 Db going from a slot ported enclosure to 2 6" aeroports. I was using roughly 40 square inches of port more on the slot ported enclosure rather than the aeroport enclosure. Same volume and same tuning frequency.

This is good news, might be able to fit a ported box where I didn't think it would before //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i have been testing lately and i dont see any where near 7 db's. complete bs. yes they improve, but not that much. that is saying if you cut your port area in half you lose 7db's. on a daily system i dont see it. even on a spl system thats hard to say. a box with a 4'' port = 145 db's. same box with port plugged and same everything 141 db's. 4 db's with having a port and then no port.

i dont see what he has to gain by making false claims. hes not even selling aero ports, he actually made a DIY tutorial on how to do them at home for yourself.

hes got quite a few accomplishments in the competition field as well. dont know why he would want to taint his, or his teams name with false statements.

i will agree, that is quite a gain, but like i said i have no reason to not believe him. but i also dont expect the same gain for my system either.
