advice on power hx2 install

I have a gs 300, I wanted to replace the factory 10 in the deck and ended up finding a Fosgate Power HX2 for $40. I know it's not designed for free air but the specs are comparable to the image dynamics that everyone says are ok for free air so I got them. Fs for both are well under 40 hz, x-max is longer for HX2, and the Qts is slightly lower. I know power handling will decrease, any suggestions on how much to throw at it. 600-700 watts maybe?

500 or so try more and see just gain match till its right

any other advice on power handling? It looks pretty beefy for a 1000 watt rms sub. What is the best way to find its limits (bottoming out)?
