So here's what I did.
After thinking it over, I decided to put a couple more $ into the wiring than I had wanted, figuring this will give me the most flexibility down the road. I went with the KnuKonceptz
Kolossus amp installation kit. Cost me an extra $25, but if I decide to put in a bigger amp down the road, I can and won't have to rewire. The alternator on my van is rated 130A, so I think I'm good.
As far as the amp, I chose an Alpine MRX-M100.(its still on the truck) Snagged one for just about what I could get a BRZ1700 for, and from what I read, that Alpine will run cooler than the HiFonics so that's why I chose it.
Now the sub. I was all set to go Dayton, but at the last moment ordered the
Boston Acoustics G310-4. The reviews are excellent, and with a $20 of $100
Crutchfield coupon, I got it for $90 shipped. Couldn't pass it up for that, I had to give it a shot. It will sit in a ~.5 cubic foot box.
What I like about this setup if flexibility. I can just switch out subs(for the most part) in the future and not worry too much if my wiring or amp is sufficient. I do plan on trying out a Dayton HO 12" at some point as well. Their shop is only about 1.5hr away from me, and I'm really curious to find out what all the fuss is about. I should have everything installed by Monday, and I will definitely report back after its done with my initial impressions.
Thanks everyone for all the tips and suggestions!
