Hi all,

I'm new to this - finally lost patience with road noise and a poor stock stereo, so I'm overhauling my car and installing sound deadening and a new stereo.

I have an old 1990 VW Caravelle (the US model was the Vanagon), which is a pretty huge 7 seater van. I'll be taking it apart and installing dynamat/CCF/MLV to reduce exterior noise before installing a new stereo. I'm looking for a bit of advice on the stereo components I have been looking at purchasing. Bear in mind that I am in Australia and so am somewhat constrained in what I can purchase due to international shipping costs. I am also most interested in delivering good sound to the front seats - it's such a big van that I'll work on the rear at a later date, funds willing.

- I have already purchased and installed a Pioneer MVH-X565BT head unit, which includes 3 RCA pre-outs.

- I'm looking for a component 6 - 6.5" woofer/tweeter system for the front doors/dash. At the moment I am leaning towards the JL Audio C3-650, 75 watt RMS, which I can get for around AUD$300. I would love the C5, but at $200 more I think it's out of my reach, and I've heard the C3 is pretty close in terms of SQ.

- I'm thinking an Alpine Type R SWR-12D2 or SWR-10D2 (both 1000w RMS) in a sealed box on the floor behind the drivers seat, tucked out of the way. I prefer tight/accurate bass to boomy sounds, so I think the sealed box is the way to go. It'll be roughly $250 once I've put it in a box.

- I am hoping to power it all with an Alpine PDX-V9, which has 4x100 watt RMS + 1x500 watt mono RMS. I can pick it up for around $600. Will this be enough power for the Type R sub (1000w RMS) - from what I've read it powers it fine, and it appears that one of Alpine's recommended setups includes this combination of amp/sub (or would a Type S with 500w RMS be better suited?). The amp should also leave me 2 free channels if I decide I need more speakers in the front, or if I decide to power better speakers in the rear...

I havent delved into what wiring to use at this point, or how best to wire the amp/sub, but I'll get to that. Or is it worth getting an auto elec to do the install? I'm not a dummy and have happily installed the head unit and a remote central locking kit in the past...

For that budget of around AUD$1100-1200, am I spending the right ratio of money on the right things? Will those outputs match up ok? It's hard for me to get a gauge, and nowhere near me stocks all these components to have a listen.

Any thoughts/advice welcome! Thanks!
