so i know there are different spider sizes. but what are the benifits other than more throw?

DD likes the 7.6, or something like that

12 spoke baskets take 8in

6 spoke take 8.25, 8, or 9.25

ti takes 10

so which is better and why? I'm looking for the technical answeres here other than they can move further. because DD uses a really small spider so....

You want to hear a reason, other than the reason? An argument could be made a larger spider will also live longer than a smaller one, given the same excursion. But mostly, its for excursion potential.

I dont know what your DD example implies.

i built some power hx2 18s for my one friend, and they are just flat out power hungry! and i used 4 9.25 spiders stacked with 4 in coil they take 6krms like nothing and laugh... and even tryed 3 different boxes and it is the subs!

then my other buddy , same motor and baskets i used 5 8 inch spiders stacked and those things just move.

and then i know DD has a small spider and they work good...

More excursion. Keep in mind that >40hz generally we run into thermal limits before excursion limits and DD reccomends 40hz tuning or so anyway. I've used some high excursion drivers and even with quite a bit of power on tap you usually only see it

DD's drivers are generally designed to play in vented systems where other factors become more dominant than just simple cone excursion potential.

With that being said, having more cone excursion, even if you dont use it, is almost always a good thing.
