Advantage of little subs or big subs

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of having, let's say, (6) 8" subs or (3) 12" subs. I am having going to have a custome box built for my firebird convertible. After I lose the spare tire and jack, I will have plenty of room. The Audiobahn subs I have now are leaving me, so here we are with my question. I listen to rap and r&b and I'm looking for BIG bass that has SQ also. I got MB Quart comps in the front and rear so the titanium tweets will keep up.

Which will sound better for rap?

Which will save money with the amps to run em'?

An extremely high excursion 10 vs a low excursion 15, the 10" could come out on top.
