A subwoofer's ability to play low

I'd also say that it is vehicle dependent. Vehicles resonate differently, so inherently some vehicles will like low freqs while others like higher freqs.
True, so much to take into account...ugh

ive heard. i play in the lower 20s with it pretty good.
ahh, ok. Lol

almost bought one but I decided that an oscope was a better investment at the time.. ill have to pick one up soon for when I build my monsters...
I bought one but it's sitting in my room where my roommate left it. Got about a month left on this ghey deployment before I get to play with it. (Lol, play with it)

Enclosure volume, port area, vehicle acoustics, cone area, power, and in all honesty some times dumb luck. While TS specs may be important as some claim the reality is simply they make less difference then most will ever tell you.

In many cases being able to play low with athority will be just as hard as SPL. Testing and rebuilding may be required to find that perfect match for your tastes.

4th orders, 6th orders and horns offer the most control on the low end. These boxes when designed right will offer better response below 30hz than any ported.
There is far more to it then simple 4th, 6th, or other designs. In some cases and applications a very simple bass reflex enclosure will net the best overall result. There is no single "magic enclosure". With there was, would make my job so much easier.

And sealed, believe it or not.

I appreciate all of your responses guys. My next bright idea is to try a large sealed enclosure. I'll lose overall output but the low end may be more pronounced. Supposedly these Type Es were designed for sealed anyway.

If you want loud down to the 20's, stick to large sealed with the most cone area.
I have 5 of these Type E 12s I could try running sealed. If that isn't enough cone area, I'm boned.

I guess its down to continuing trying different boxes, and possibly subs.
