Wow. Ok, underpowering could be a problem if he is trying to pull more power that the amp can produce cleanly... resulting in clipping. Thats what I meant.

exactly and he ended up gettin 'dirty' power.

Ok all my gains are at basically 1/2 and I am using my bass boost.

You should really read the amp setting sticky thread. Sounds like you just randomly put them at half.

proly a gain taht goes from 6 V to 250mv for his amp
