a helpful recommendation regarding an alternator upgrade?

today, jt is after recommendations for who will be able to supply the most reliable but also a reasonably cost effective custome built alternator.

im after something around the 250amp range and was wondering what companies are there who specialize in the manufactrure of these.

[H.O. Alternator]

One of my concerns is whether or not you want an alternator that will directly replace the stock unit. If this is the case, what kind of vehicle are we talking about? Year, Make, Model, engine size. Also, you are from the UK, so more than likely your vehicle isn't available in the US. So, you may want to look for part #'s right off of the alternator. Pictures of the alternator in it's installed location woudn't hurt either.

Or, are you looking to add an alternator to the vehicle? This does require a bracket and some "customizing"...

the car i am looking at taking on as a project is a benz SL500. it comes with a 140 alt as standard, but i feel something bigger, say around 210 alts would be better.
