clipping at rated power or below?People call me crazy, but I could have sworn that I heard the power supply switching in some of the early class d amplifiers. IMHO they sounded rough and harsh.
Of course I later learned that the main problem with the early class d amplifiers and even some current budget brands compared to most class ab amplifier is that the class Ds clip hard and fast. I've verified this by looking at output on an oscilloscope with test tones and even my beloved Crossfire BMF1000d goes from a nice pretty sine wave to a saw tooth square EXTREMELY fast. Even worse was a Hifonics Brutus BXi 1606d. Granted, the testing was performed with an oscilloscope, DMMs, ammeters, dummy loads, and subwoofers BUT we lacked the equipment to test for THD.
Most people dont get SQ because there nice sub/amp combo cant keep up with headuint powered stocks, or upgraded 6x9's with headuint power. By cant keep up i mean leaves them behind.
