A Good SQ amp help

I currently have a AQ2200D amp and it's a beast dont get me wrong. But are their better SQ amps out there? No mean stream companies, i like being different. Ive heard of IA amps lately and Sundowner Amps I hear of all the time, and both are awsome products:toast:, but are there any other SQ amps out their that does cost a arm and 2 legs?

I have ran main strem amps like JL an the sound quality was great, but am looking for that in a 2000 watt amp to run 2 12" IA Death Rows. I heard these subs can get way low, if i can mix their lows, with a good SQ amp, then the possibilities are enless for what can be produces //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

So far, you really haven't mentioned anything that relates much to sound quality //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You are looking for an SQ amp to run a pair of Death Row subs? I haven't run IA subs, but have never heard them mentioned in the same sentence as SQ. Seems to me that you would start the quest for SQ with the subs and the enclosure first, then the amp. I dig SQ, but gear my system more for SPL, while trying to keep it clean and clear. I have heard that JL makes great SQ amps, but haven't run one personally.

I am curious as to what makes one amplifier a SQ amp in the sound region where most are least sensitive to changes in audible frequencies (i.e. 20 to 100 Hz). IMHO the subwoofer amplifier only needs to provide unclipped RMS power over a virtually flat response curve from 20 to 100 Hz OR 5 to 100 Hz if you listen to pipe organ reproductions.

amps with higher distortion and low damping factor, you can detect. In the same car I had a soundstream 10.0, adcom 5275, a phd2 and a memphis 1000d on the same subs. The class d were not as good IMO. I know not all are created equal and d has evolved in the last 8 years but atleast at that point in time...well they were loud and small.

I am still of the position that Damping Factor is a USELESS spec in car audio. Damping Factor is the amplifier's ability to deal with impedance changes and is EXTREMELY important in the pro audio world where speaker wire runs can be 25, 50, 100, or even 200 feet away from the amplifier. For car audio, it is a USELESS spec! Hell, some of the most beloved, uber expensive home amplifiers that true audiophiles enjoy have single digit damping factor numbers.

I'll agree that some of the first and second generation Class D amplifiers didn't really excite me. I think the OP is going to be highly disappointed if he ditches his AudioQue for a higher priced amplifier for "SQ" purposes on his subwoofers. Unless one is competing or wants matching amplifiers, there is really no reason to go with an expensive amplifier to power those highly inefficient subwoofers on a daily basis.

This

That is what I was saying in my 1st post.

As far as df is concerned. I never had real evidence. The main thing I concluded was that the D amps that sounded like doo doo had a very low df compared to the a/b that didn't. I'm sure there were other factors though.

People call me crazy, but I could have sworn that I heard the power supply switching in some of the early class d amplifiers. IMHO they sounded rough and harsh.

Of course I later learned that the main problem with the early class d amplifiers and even some current budget brands compared to most class ab amplifier is that the class Ds clip hard and fast. I've verified this by looking at output on an oscilloscope with test tones and even my beloved Crossfire BMF1000d goes from a nice pretty sine wave to a saw tooth square EXTREMELY fast. Even worse was a Hifonics Brutus BXi 1606d. Granted, the testing was performed with an oscilloscope, DMMs, ammeters, dummy loads, and subwoofers BUT we lacked the equipment to test for THD.
