Yeah, I love the Nak, but for the same cash a double DIN Eclipse Nav unit w/ HD radio would be in my dash, and have nearly as good sq.

I don't think it would come very close to the Nak. Eclipses flagship deck may be get close to the same neighborhood in SQ but not the Nav deck. That Nav deck is NOT geared with absolute SQ in mind.

Heres a NoOb question. When buying these SQ decks arent the speakers even more important? I mean you con only get so much out of the speaker right? There is no point in spending 1500-2000 on a deck if your going to send the sound through some shitty components right?

My friend had a pioneer 9300 h/u in his car.

A set of DLS components.

The H/U was stolen so he got a temporarily h/u

Pioneer 4700.

It sounded like CRAP.

He then bought a 940mp and it sounded so much better.

Most in dash dvd units cost about that much and dont have near the features/quality

Pioneers are weak, I had a top of the line on my 3 12s a year or 2 ago and i replaced with with bottom of the line eclipse and the sq was 2x better. I was **** suprised.

It's the only US-market Pioneer deck I'd buy...

I still think this thing is badass.

They are not at the level of the Nak, but they do actually have features- something nakamichis lack. I also like the 8455 and 8445 a lot too, but the "vegas by night" displays...not so much.

If you have stock speakers, you would be a complete moron to buy one of those decks. But, as supa_c pointed out if you have an upgraded system then it makes a very noticable difference. I've had a Sony CDX-F7715X, Pioneer DEH-P860MP and Alpine CDA-9855 all in my truck in the last 2 weeks or so, and there was a very noticable difference in the sound quality of each one. Example, the 9855 sucks, but oh well. geonfreaq I hope you also realize that the SQ decks you refer to have no internal power...
