A definitive answer about amp strapping

Hello guys this is my first post. I'm at my shop late working on my own vehicle for a change. I don't really do audio, I'm actually a mechanic with a love for loud bass.

Anyway this is what I'm working with.

1 American Bass XFL 15" 4 ohm DVC sub

2 Soundstorm Laboratories EV4000D amps, identical models, 1 ohm stable (I know I know now that they're strapped they become 1 amp stable at 2 ohms.

So I'm not here to ask about strapping the amps together. All of this has been completed. However before I got to firing up my system for the first time I was interested in a definitive answer about ohm loads because from one website to the next, and one person to the next the answer is unclear.

With my sub wired for 2 ohms (which is how I had it when running a single amp and its the lowest a 4 ohm sub should go) being that I'm now strapped and each amp carries a portion of the load and becomes divided, I'm currently going to be at 1 ohm on my sub now. Am I correct?

If the answer is yes, obviously I don't want to do it this way. So the solution then would be to instead wire it for 8 ohms, which when the amps share the load, divided would put the sub at 4 ohms. Obviously for loud bass 4 ohms is not going to be optimal, but at 4 ohms strapped wouldn't this be more power than 1 ohm with the same single amp? Or no?

So the two questions are

Am I currently wired for 1 ohm?

And is 1 ohm with 1 of the amps I stated above more, or less, powerful than strapped at 4 ohms.

Rreal easy way to check that is with a DMM. You are at 2ohms.

Strapped meaning each amp sees 1ohm. Each.

You are at optimal operating capacity. Fire it up.

You were right. 2.2 ohms with my DMM.

Playing loud and clear as of now. Sounds great, nothing getting hot. Thanks for your response. This should be a sticky on google to correct all the sites providing incorrect information.
