A 6"- 8" mid-sub to go in place of 6x9's

I guess the ideal range would be 20-5000 or so Hz. Is that about right?
That's very difficuly if not impossible to do with a mid. Sub-bass (subwoofer) frequencies are generally 20-80Hz, and most good midrange speakers will play from about 70-5000Hz (most can max out higher, some will max out lower).

These are very generalized numbers, its going to be driver/install dependent:

SUB-20-80hz some will play as high as 100hz

Mid-bass-80hz-200hz some will play higher

Midrange-200hz-4000hz some will play higher

The Tangband are nice for the price. IMO the Peerless is better.

Other's to consider:

CDT M6 and M6+, 06/06+, 07

Old school kicker 6" sub one with stich sourround if you can find them.

Check out Seas/Peerless/Dayton

I am sure between these two sites below you can find a driver that will meet your needs.

You can look at Seas/Peerless/Vifa ect at http://www.madisound.com

I've added critical mass ss82's to my rear deck for sub duty, I've also had DLS OA8's and AA Assassins.

The SS82's are taking 550 rms each without a problem and sound very nice in my rear deck, the AA's had 80 rms each going to them and they did sound pretty good doing it but I wish I had more power to them. DLS were very nice as well, more detailed and probably more along the lines of what OP is looking for. Low bass output is nice however detail is more noticeable in this driver.

Buy a pair of rainbow power line cs woofers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ~40hz-5000hz. Wee! Rainbow specs say 35hz-5khz but i think that's a mild exaggeration.

HAHA that's exactly what I was going to suggest depending on the budget!

Either the SLC Kick mids, the Germanium mids, the CMX Kick mids, or the CS mids. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I guess my space has really narrowed it down!

I just went and measured and with the x-bars a 8" is a for sure won't fit. It is either a 6x9 which these Focals barely touch the bars or a 6.5". I think I have decided to just fit another set of M-6's back there.

I ordered a set of the TB 6.5's you posted just in case. When I measured I had 3.5" to the bar from the deck but with 1/2" MDF to mount it up it may clear. If not I could possibly shave it down or try to find 3/8" MDF. Wonder if they will play better than the M-6's? The M-6's are only 3" mounting depth so they should be cake.

Anyone ever listen to those TB 6.5's:
